It were as if time grinded to a sudden halt.
You fell deaf to all your surroundings, a high-pitched ringing filling your ears as you watched the scene in horror.
You didn't feel real. It were as if you were watching your own body from the outside—like you were a ghost.
Eli had been your best friend since forever; you could barely remember the times before he was in your life. It had been a whole decade since you each met.
Going into kindergarten, you and your brother had tragically been separated into different classes. You were so used to sticking to (B/N)'s side all the time; you didn't know how to handle yourself.
So, you isolated completely. You never attempted to socialize with the other kids in your class. How could you act on your own, if you weren't in your twin's shadow?
That was, until Eli approached you. Unlike you at the time, he was full of energy and made friends with everyone in the class. He practically radiated light and joy.
Of course, with his annoying self, he continuously approached you. He asked you questions. He teased playfully. He told you about his day. You remember it all too well.

It was a crisp, autumn day. After your academics, it was recess; your class went out to the playground.
Automatically, you strayed away from the play scape. You wanted to go on it, but it didn't feel right; not without (B/N).
Your light-up sketchers crunched against the fallen leaves, your tiny hands anxiously fiddling with the hem of your sweater. It was a matching one—a pair that went with your brother's.
The soft, brown cotton wrapped you like a warm embrace, the too-large sleeves draping your hands entirely.
You begged your mother to buy you the matching sweaters—one of which had a peanut butter character, while the other had jelly. After playing a competitive match of rock-paper-scissors with your twin, you had earned the peanut butter one.
Your steps slowed to a stop, your sketcher's illumination dissipating gradually. You felt stupid; you were a loner, yet you were wearing a matching piece of clothing? Your class probably thought of you to be a fool.
Nobody knew you were matching but yourself.
You were young, but you weren't stupid; you noticed the judgmental stares your peers gave you.
Swallowing and fighting back tears, you sat in a far corner—surrounding yourself with the trees and foliage.
You idly doodled in the dirt with your finger, trying to get your mind to wander to happier things.
