part 5: years later

Selenas pov

Today is my first day of high school! I'm so excited to get out of the tower for a while. Daddy is not that excited about it.  This is my outfit

Mom curled my blonde hair and I go downstairs to see dad making protein shakes. I take one. He says, "morning princess." I say, "morning." He smiled and said, "dad?" He asks, "yes?" I ask, "can we take your motorcycle to school?" He laughs and says, "sure. Mom has to work anyway." I smile and go to the motorcycle. I sit on the back and wait for my dad. I roll my eyes and said, "daddy! We're gonna be late!" Dad rushes and we go to school

At school

I let go of my dad's waist and get off with my shake in hand. "Bye!" He says, "what? Am I too cool for you now?" I turn around and say, "what? Are you kidding? My daddy is captain America. Avenger, super soldier, friend of many and foe of villains. You could never get too cool for me ever." I hug him and I say, "I'll see you after school and we can spend time together." He nods and says, "I love you baby." I smile and say, "I love you too, daddy."

First class is history so I maky my way there. I see people giving me glares and I ignore them.

In history class

We're learning about Norse mythology. As in Loki, Thor, Frigga and Odin. We have to write an essay about two people. I chose frigga and Loki.

After history

It's time for lunch and I see someone bullying a guy. I say, "hey! Leave him alone." They just laughed and I punched them and used my assassin moves. One of them gave me a black eye and a bloody nose. I look at the guy, "you alright?" He says, "yea. Thanks. I'm Tommy." I say, "Selena." And I give him my number. We eat lunch, finish up my classes, and I see my mom in the parking lot.

I ran up to her and say, "mama!" And hug her she smiles and wraps her arms around me. She takes a look at me and says, "oh, baby." I say, "I just wanted to protect him. He was getting hurt mom. When I see a situation go south, I can't ignore it." She smiles and kisses my head, "you're a lot like your dad that way. I'm proud of you." I smile and we get in the car and go home.

At home

I see my dad with uncle Bruce and Tony and I say, "daddy!" He smiles and says, "baby." And I ran to give him a hug. I don't look at him and mom says, "tell him." I sigh and say, "Uncles, could you leave us please." They nodded and left. I take a step back from dad and he sees my face. Mom said, "she got into a fight."  He looks at me and says, "really. You had to get into one? And on your first day!" I say, "I didn't use my powers! What's the big deal?!" He looks shocked that I talked back. I say,

"A kid was getting beaten up! I stepped in. I used the assassin moves and was able to dodge their shots at me until they got me in the eye and nose. If I see a situation going south, I can't ignore it. That's what you've always told me, dad. You were that short kid from Brooklyn and stood up for himself or anyone. You even stood up for uncle Bucky when he went all super soldier. You still loved him because he's your best friend. I'm your daughter. Are you really going to say to me that I can't get into a fight when I know somethings not right? Dad, you basically ignored the law once. Over the sakovia accords. I know you'd do it again. But don't look at me and say that I can't fight for anything or anyone especially when I want to be an avenger."

He smiles and say, "I know your going to start crying so come here." Tears start welling up in my eyes and I say, "I don't leaving a situation when I know someone's going to get hurt." He smiles and cups my face and says, "you're a rogers. You've got a good heart." I say, "our heart gets us into trouble, doesn't it?" He nodded and he cleans up my bloody nose and mom gets dinner ready for everyone. I text Tommy

Selena:)- hey Tommy. Are you alright?

Tommy:))- I'm doing alright. Are you okay? I'm so sorry bout your eye and nose.

Selena:)- it's fine. If I see a situation go south, I just can't ignore it.

Tommy:))- you're one of the kindest people I know, Selena.

Selena:)- you don't see that much anymore, Tommy. Why be mean and cold when you can be kind with a big heart?

I ended the texting there. I decided to go up to the roof. That's where I get some peace and quiet. Away from everything. I see buck and I say, "sorry. I can come back." He says, "no, no. Join me." I nodded and he sees my eye and says, "Selena.." I say, "no thanks. I already had to deal with my dad." He smiles and says, "he's just protecting you." I sigh angrily

"I am not 5 anymore! He can still protect me but he has to realize I'm not a piece of glass. Let me make mistakes, let me stand up for myself and for other people who can't. Let me do anything. Yes, I'm Selena Rogers. Daughter of captain America. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to be on the wrong side of the law!  I love my dad with my whole heart. But he drives me crazy."

buck smiles, "he's your dad. he loves you, sweetie. I remember when you were a baby. he wouldn't sleep if you had a hard time falling asleep." I say, "I have to go make up with him, don't I?" and he says, "you can't be mad forever. neither of you can." I hug him and go see dad. he's in his and mom's room. mom went to her shooting range. I open the door to see him looking through photo albums. I sit on the bed and close the book. "I'm sorry, dad. I never meant to talk back or act so mean towards you. I respect you, but respect goes both ways. so does love. I know you want to protect me, daddy. but some things, you can't. it scares you. trust me, it scares me too. I just wanna do some good." 

he opens his arms and I lay in them. he says, "I know you're growing up. hell, you shot your first gun when you were 5. I guess I'm just not ready to see my baby grow up just yet. to me you'll always be that baby wrapping your hand around my thumb. I knew in that moment, you'd be my life. but, you're a teenager. you need to make friends and have some fun. I know you'll own up to your mistakes and make them right and I know you'll always come back to mom and I." I laugh and say, "am I still your favorite person?" he says, "yes. don't tell mom." I laugh and say, "your secret's safe with me." he kissed my head and opened up the book again. I see a photo of me, mom and dad when I was born. and then I went to go see mom

in the shooting range

I put headphones on and grab my gun and shoot targets. that got moms attention. she smiles, turns to me and took off her headphones. so did I. she motions me to sit with her. I say, "I'm sorry, mom. for everything that I've done to hurt you and daddy." she smiles and says, "I remember when I was pregnant with you. I was terrified but your dad was right there with me. he went through every emotion, every craving. he loves us. through our flaws and imperfections." I smile and say, "can I sleep in your room? I've been having night terrors." she nods and we get ready for sleep. these are my pjs

I get in the middle of the bed squeezed in between daddy and mama and dad looks at me confused and said, "Nat. what's our kid doing in here?" and mom says, "she wants us both." dad smiles and says, "correct answer." and I cuddled into dad as he put an arm around me and mom and I hear lightning and I say, "if that's Thor, he'll be yelled at for not sleeping." they say, "night princess." "night mama. night daddy. I love you." and they say, "love you." mama held my hand and daddy held me close while I listened to his heart
