Chapter 29

Error's P.O.V

I gave out a small sigh as I sat on my favorite spot in OuterTale as a few questions buzz on my mind as I stare at the stary sky.

I then heard a portal open behind me as a familiar warm aura made its way towards me. "Hi Error," Dream said with a shy smile as yellow blush colored his cheekbones. "H3¥ Dr3@m," I greeted him back as I gave him a side glance.

We both sat in a comfortable silence as I inwardly debated on whether to question him or not. "Error? What's wrong?" He asks me as I gave him an unsure look. "H0₩ c0m3 ¥0u n3v3r m3n+10n +h@+ N19h+m@r3 1$ ¥0ur br0+h3r?" I hesitantly ask him as he tenses in response.

"How did you-" "N19h+m@r3 +0ld m3 ₩h3n 1 ₩@$ +r¥1n9 +0...n390t1@+3 ₩1+h h1m3." I answered as he nervously looks away. Dream gave out a heavy sigh as he looks at his lap with a hint of sadness in his eyes "I-It's a long story but..." he paused as I gently grab his hand in reassurance.

"Several years ago when I was fighting one on one with Nightmare..." Dream started as I listened carfully to his story.

Flashback to 128 years ago

Sounds of clashing and magic being used echoed throughout the AU as two beings fought each other in the middle of what looked like a forest.

One of them was a black tar skeleton with a single cyan eyelight, as four tentacles sprouted from his back as he wore a jacket, a simple shirt, lose shorts, and slippers. All covered with the same black substance that dripped all over his body but never seemed to spill.

The other being was also a skeleton, he has pure white bones, golden yellow eyelights, wore a teal blue button up shirt, dark blue pants, yellow fingerless gloves, yellow boots, a golden belt with a DS signature on the middle, a golden crown, and a long, wide cape with a sun on the middle and a pink clip with a white star to hold it together.

"Brother, please! We don't have to keep fighting each other!" The golden skeleton pleads as he doges a tentacle that was heading straight towards him. "Save me the lectures Dream. I've heard the same bullshit you tell me every time we fight each other and it's starting to get very annoying." He said with clear irritation as he sends more tentacles toward his direction.

Dream created a golden barrier with his magic as it blocked the darker ones attack as the black skeleton known as Nightmare tskd in annoyance. "I just want to talk to you brother!" Dream said desperately as he reluctantly lowered the barrier and summoned his bow to fire dozens of electric blue arrows at him.

Nightmare manages to dodge most of the arrows, but some of them manage to hit their target. Letting out a low growl, Nightmare pulls out the arrows and teleports behind Dream, sharpening his tentacles as he attacks him once more.

Dream quickly turns around but was unable to dodge In time as the tentacles grabs him and slamed him against the floor. Dream lets out a painful yelp as he struggles against Nightmares grip and felt his magic slowly depleting from his negativity.

"L-let go of m-me!" Dream weezes as he struggles against his grasp "You're honestly fucking pathetic Dream. Thinking your being some sort of 'hero' by constantly helping random strangers off the street." Nightmare spat as he glares at Dream with pure disgust "I-If I'm not helping those in need, then who will?" Dream retorts as Nightmare scoffs.

"I honestly shouldn't be suprise at this point, afterall, you LOVE helping random people, but when it comes to your own fucking brother, it doesn't matter what happens to him, right?!" He said harshly as Dream eyes widen in dispalief.

"W-what?! No!! Of course I care about you Nightmare! I always have and I always-AAAACK!!" He yells out loud as Nightmare slames him against the ground, creating a crator underneath him. "SHUT UP!! I DONT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING COMING FROM YOU!!" He yells as his face melts into a monstrouses form.

"BROTHER THIS!! BROTHER THAT!! HONESTLY DREAM, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I EVEN CONSIDER YOU AS MY BROTHER?! WHEN ALL I SEE IS A PATHETIC TWERP WHO IS TRYING AND FAILING MISERABLY TO PLAY THE HERO!!" He yelled angerly as he lifts Dream from the ground, his tentacles threatening to snap his neck in half "YOU ARE NOT MY BROTHER! YOU WILL NEVER BE MY BROTHER! AND ALL YOU WILL EVER BE IN THIS FUCKING UNIVERSE IS A FAILURE!!" He shouts his voice filled with HATE.

As Dream continues to struggle against the tentacle that was wrapped around his spinal core. Another tentacle raises behind Nightmare and seem to move to strike Dream right at the center of his chest.

Dream closes his eyes as yellow tears threatened to spill as he prepares for an impact, but it never came. Dream hesitantly open his eyes as the scene before him made his soul stop. The tentacle before purposely missed him and instead TORE his cape in half, barely missing the sun symbol as a loud rip echoed his mind.

Nightmare lets go of Dream as he watches him fall to his knees and silently cry for the cape before him. Dream, with shaking hands, gently grabs the cape as tears continue to run like a Waterfall as he stares at the last reminder of his passive twin brother in pure devastation.

"Let this be a warning Dream, next time we meet. I will make sure NOT to miss." Nightmare said, his voice filled with venom as the crying Dream only continued to stare at the cape in pure shock. A feeling of slight guilt and regret began to haunt the corners of Nightmares soul as he stares at his crying 'twin' but instead of comforting him, he shoved the feelings aside and forced himself to teleport to his castle.

Dream only sat their not moving, not speaking, his usual bright golden eyes were dull and small, his body shaking but dared not to move a single inch, as if he was paralyzed. His tears seemed to never end as he stare at the cape in his hands. Memories of his childhood, of Nightmare, of the tree, came running through his head as his surroundings seemed to blur together.

It wasn't until Ink came to check on Dream did he finally decided to stand up, that his endless tears seemed to stop. As he crosses the ink portal to the Star Base, a single question crossed his mind.

'Why can't we be happy?'.
