Chapter 11 • Can we be together?

"Draupadi, Come and eat with us!" Kunti invited her happily.
"Yes Rajkumari!" Said the 4 Pandavas except Arjun.
Draupadi looked towards Arjun.
He smiled and nodded.
She looked towards Kunti.
"Sure Rajmata! Even I am too very hungry.." She said, rather sarcastically.
Kunti smiled and all of them went inside the hut except Arjun, who stood there, numb.

Yudhishthir noticed this and came out.
"Arjun? What happened? Let's go.."
He did not say anything.
"What is the matter?" He asked again.
"Draupadi has kept a condition before me, jyesth bhrata.."
"Condition?"
Arjun nodded.
"She wants us to get back to Hastinapur.."
"Arjun..I know.."
"What?"
"I know that you are in love with her.. isn't it?" He said.
Arjun looked down.
Yudhishthir smiled.
"Love can make peace Arjun...but you know right we can't be humiliated like that again..?"
Arjun nodded.
"That's the reason.."

"Tell me one thing..do you know that she feels the same about you..?" Yudhishthir asked.
Arjun looked towards him, confused.
"I-I don't know...maybe I guess..?"
"Arjun, mere bhaii..!!"
"You need to find out that right?"
Arjun looked up towards him with a tensed look. He seemed rather confused.

"Jyesth, when you know about the issues we are facing now, why are you asking me to go to her and be together? We can't be together, I have the responsibilties to protect my family and try to figure about something for our future."
Yudhishthir smiled calmly and put a hand on his shoulder.

"Before taking some decisions, you must talk to her."

Arjun looked up straight and nodded confidently. He decided to talk to Draupadi and find a way out soon.

It was a full moon night. Draupadi had decided to stay back with them that night.

She was sitting on the rocks, staring at the night sky. Her body was glowing radiantly under the moonlight, enough to mesmerize anyone.

Arjun on the other side was preparing her arrangements for that night. He could see her from a distance, sitting like an apsara from the heavens. It was the perfect moment to go up to her and talk.

"Hmm-mm.." He signaled reaching up to her.

Draupadi looked towards him, smiling. "I was waiting for you, sit down Rajkumar!" she instructed. Arjun sat down the rock beside her and looked towards her for a while.

He was hesitating to talk to her as if he started talking he might have no control over his words. He was just mesmerized by her radiant glow.
Draupadi noticed Arjun looking at her.

"Rajkumar, I don't think it's good to catch someone's look through their eyes like this.."

"I have no words to say. Your appearance have left me blank." he said smiling a bit.

"I know, you have been going through a lot and I'm sorry for that. I should have known about the consequences but its like.." She paused.
"Like?" Arjun asked.

"No I can't.." she stood up and started leaving but a hand held her firmly. Instant butterflies came up in her stomach. She turned back and saw Arjun looking up, straight into her eyes. That look was enough for someone too fall in love at once with him.

"Listen Draupadi.." Arjun stood up maintaining the eye contact and holding her hand firmly.
"Right now, at this moment, we are at a crisis. We have been declared dead for the whole Aryavart.. And the treachery we faced by our own cousins was no less.."
Draupadi looked down, not knowing what to say.
"We won't return to Hastinapur after this humiliation and we have made up our minds. We can't let our Mata to face their behaviour again."
"Arjun, if you and your brothers won't return to Hastinapur, the kingdom will be finished. Maharaja Dhritarashtra's sons will rule with adharma and no one will be happy in the kingdom. Yuvraj Yudhisthir should understand this." Draupadi replied.
Arjun went silent, at one part Draupadi was right but he was confused about the consequences. He looked at her, her face had a confident look. Arjun smiled.
"Rajkumari, you really have some good knowledge about these things, I'm impressed." Arjun said, looking at her.
"And also.." He continued. "Your skills, your beauty, everything.." He hesitated to say further.
"Is something bothering you, Rajkumar?" Draupadi asked, sensing his hesitation.

"Draupadi, it's like..I..I don't know how to say this..but.." Arjun rubbed his head.
"Well, you can. I won't judge you"
"No no, it's not about judging..It's like.."
Draupadi without hesitating a bit further, smiled and put a small kiss on Arjun's cheeks.
"It's ok Rajkumar, even I have feelings for you" Draupadi confessed.
Arjun went all red, he couldn't think for that moment. But after a moment of silence, he chuckled.
"I love you, Draupadi" He said, smiling.
Draupadi blushed and looked down. Arjun held her chin up.
"You don't want to say anything?" He asked.
Draupadi looked up, smiling. Her cheeks had went red, she was experiencing this type of love for the first time in her life.
"I love you too, Arjun" She said softly.
Arjun was very happy, he hugged her tightly. They both were embracing each other under the silvery moonlight.

"Draupadi.." Arjun whispered.
"Hmm..?"
"I will talk to Jyesth tomorrow. We will go back to Hastinapur and fight for our rights."
Draupadi looked up at him.
"I want to marry you, I want you to be my wife, Drau..Everytime I used look up at the sky and think about you. You are the only one whom I want." He caressed her head.
"Arjun, we will be together. I know destiny has some plans for us or else we shall have never met." She smiled.

"Arjun, can we be together?" She asked.
Arjun nodded. He put his palm on her cheeks, gently.
"Draupadi, it's too late. I think you should go and sleep, I have made arrangements for you."
Draupadi nodded and smiled.
"Good Night, Rajkumar Arjun" She said.
"It's just Arjun for you, dear" He smiled. "Good night"

Draupadi walked back towards the huts while Arjun stood back at the banks of the river.

Indeed, he was happy but deep inside he was furious at Duryodhan for planning to kill them.

It was now the time, to come out from the hiding and face Hastinapur along with his brothers.

He looked at the sky and prayed to Lord Shiva, to give him courage to start with a new beginning. He decided to talk to his brothers the next morning.
