"If you spent your life concentrating on what everyone else thought of you, would you forget who you really were? What if the face you showed the world turned out to be a mask... with nothing beneath it?"

Jodi Picoult, Nineteen Minutes

As soon as the speech was over Melanie and I stormed outside because we had another class next.

Many stayed behind to try and kiss The Asshole's ass. Of course, they would try to please him.

Boys probably looked at him as the dream job and some girls would take the opportunity to flirt and maybe get a sugar daddy.

Lyla was one of them. That woman got into the master with connections. I mean she didn't even know there are different types of economies.

I would not think it's weird if you don't know that when you enter college but in a Master's program? Yeah, that's kind of concerning given that it's called Master in Marketing and International Economy.

As for Mr. Asshole, our eyes never met again during the speech but it was not necessary either.

After our next class was over Melanie and I went to the cafeteria to get lunch. It was packed as always.

"I really hate having to share the cafeteria with the college students. It's not fair" She let out a heavy sigh.

"They are not going to change that for us. You know it's too expensive to maintain a cafeteria solely for the master's students. Most of the time it would be empty"

The faculty would lose money if they did that. Attendance is not mandatory for masters and they rarely visit the cafeteria.

"I know, but if they did that I would probably still have the chance to get my chocolate donut"

Melanie loved donuts of all kinds but the chocolate ones were her favorites. She especially liked the ones they serve at the cafeteria but they're always sold out by the time we go.

The line moved along and as expected there were no donuts left which put Melanie in a bad mood.

My mood didn't drop because of that but because of a message from my sister.

Jessie: Can you stay with Matthew tomorrow? I need to work!

And I need to study! I wanted to reply but I remembered it's not my nephew's fault that his mother was so manipulative.

I never said no when it came to taking care of my nephew and now it was backfiring to me.

Me: Sure, I'll be there in the morning.

Jessie: Good, see you tomorrow!

I stared at my phone for a few seconds. Negative thoughts were coming back to me. Especially negative memories.
