Chapter 6
I ducked to the ground as Jason's wolf form jumped over my body, skidding and digging his paws into the dirt. I was quick to jump to my feet and dart away from him. I know it wasn't smart to try running, again, but what choices did I have other than to pipe down and walk along side my mate like a good little Luna- to- be?
I knew he was trotting after me, and I wasn't sure as to why he hadn't caught me by now, I was in human form, running on a pitiful pair of small legs while he was a giant black wolf, faster than a cheetah. I rolled my eyes as I slowed my pace...the bastard was enjoying this.
I stopped running and stared back at him, eyes glistening with anticipation. I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for him to approach me. I figured if we could just head back to town then I could make some sort of run for it, he didn't seem like the type of guy who would cause a scene in front of families.
His wolf stood in front of me and a huff escaped his snout.
"Can you hear my thoughts?" I asked. His wolf shook its head.
'I can only speak into your mind. Get on my back, Cassie. We'll get back to town quicker, the night is growing darker, and I don't want to keep you shivering like this out here any longer.'
I nodded slowly, and jumped onto his back, not even phasing him as I had hoped I would. I hooked a leg onto each side of his body and clung to his fur, yanking harshly every now and then to annoy him. He growled lowly in a response.
'Sweetheart, watch your actions, I like to play rough too...would you like that?' Jason's deep voice echoed in my thoughts once again, making me shudder at the thought of his calloused hands on my body. 'Having some dirty thoughts about me, mon amour?' I clenched my jaw, staying quiet at his dark chuckle evaded my mind, and he took off in a sprint back to town. I tried to ignore the red blush creeping across my face, and I couldn't help but think thank god that nightfall had crept over the woods.

Jason stood at the edge of the woods, with me on his back. I could just see the town center, with he- wolves and she-wolves stepping out onto the concrete, hand in hand, smiling with their mates. I caught a few fearful faces of some girls, but nonetheless, all the cheering and laughing sounded like everyone was enjoying the presence of their futures, soon to be filled with happiness...a trait my future would not see.
I felt the cool form of a tear slide down my cheek, and couldn't help but feel loneliness fill my heart, again. Even being so close to my mate, I had never felt so alone and hurt. I climbed off of Jason's back and stood beside him, wiping my tears before he could notice. He noticed. He shifted back into his naked, human form and snaked his arm around my waist, pulling me into him.
I know it was wrong of me to do so, but I needed comfort, and I didn't want to be a mess stepping back into the face of the crowd, I wanted to hold my head high and show that I still had an ounce of pride left. Jason lay his chin on my head, gently, rocking me back and forth in his arms.
"Why are you crying, my love?" He whispered soothingly into my hair, while rubbing my back with his free hand.
I just shook my head, refusing to answer. I was so overwhelmed, and tired. I didn't know what I was feeling. I was like a bi-polar mess; one second I was upset and the next I couldn't be happier to be held by Jason. I felt sensual shivers under his touch, and love under his gaze, and yet I despised it altogether. My emotions were going to be the death of me, and this would just be the beginning.
