The next day came, and once again, Kordell's alarm had sprung him awake. It was another day of blistering summer heat, and the grass outside was dry and dead beyond repair. Kordell dreaded finding out his word limit for the day, but he knew it was something he needed to know. He turned on his phone, trembling and just as he suspected, it was low again; today the number was 15. What did I do to deserve this? I hate having a stupid word limit! He stormed downstairs and ate breakfast, exactly as he had done yesterday. This time his mom was sound asleep; he figured she could use a good rest, so he quietly finished getting ready and slowly closed the front door behind him.
