Between the years they'd separated and gone their own ways, they'd found themselves coming back together for a job in Ravka which included certain death. It was unsure to the group why Raina was there with them but they just accepted it, she knew everything about everyone and so this insight was very much appreciated. There was obvious tension between her and Kaz but they ignored it, wanting to get the girl and their money so they could continue and act like normal.

However that didn't happen and when the group returned to Ketterdam they found themselves learning the true reasoning behind her joining them. They'd been double crossed by her, for Pekka Rollins of all people. Apparently he'd offered a deal, one which she wouldn't disclose with the group, which meant handing Kaz Brekker over to him. Of course she complied and when they returned they were ambushed, narrowly escaping his clutches.

From that day on, Kaz swore he'd get his vengeance on the girl, he'd never trust her on such a job again. Which is why, when Jesper foolishly offered asking Raina for help breaking into the Ice Court, he was full of disgust. A million other options came to mind but when he thought them through they'd end uncertainly. No chance, he would not ask her for her assistance. Her role wasn't even that important, they could easily get Nina to find another squaller who was willing not to ask questions, they didn't need Raina.

Adamant with his decision, Kaz had practically glared Jesper down for his idiocy, wishing he could come up with another option. Silence surrounded the group, unsure what they were meant to do. They needed someone who was able to summon wind, someone who can speak Fjerdan, aside from Matthias, and someone who had connections in high places if shit went wrong.
