Often Raina would find herself slipping into the past, fixated on all the ifs, buts and whys. Knowing that she was at fault for so much was a daunting thought, consuming her with guilt every time. There were many examples where she could have helped but she chose the wrong options every time and as consequence, she ended up where she was now.

What would her life had been like if her mother didn't go missing all those years ago? Would she have inherited her mother's bakery, serving the locals with wide smiles and an aura of safety? Would people still fear her whenever they heard a mere whisper of her name? Would she and Kaz have lived happily ever? Or were they destined to spend forever within reach but still unreachable.

Shaking her head at such a thought, she frowned, looking out at the emptiness before her. The ocean used to scare her, it was so undiscovered and the not knowing haunted her more than anything. Yet, Raina learnt that fearing such a thing was pathetic; the only thing she should ever fear is human nature. The ocean can be studied and explained but human nature, that could never be explained. All different people, behaving so similar yet no two were the same. One could grow up surrounded by violence and still turn out the same as someone who experienced love and nurture. Unlike what many believe, it is not the environment that can dictate how someone turns out in the future, it is merely their own choices that either led them into a life of crime or one of luxury.
