3rd Person POV

"I hate the circus." Lizzie says as her, Hope, and an invisible Sadie walk into the circus area

"Oh, good. This is a carnival." Hope says

"No, you're right, that's so different." Lizzie says. "If we see a clown, I'm out of here."

"Actually, you have to do whatever I say." Hope reminds her

"Whatever you say. You've never mentioned it before." Lizzie says with an eye roll. "I thought we were killing Aurora. Why are we here?"

"We are here, young Padawan, because... a carnival's the perfect place to blend in while we run some tests." Hope says

"I feel deep down that I am going to wish that I didn't ask this question, but... what kind of tests?" Lizzie asks

"Before I find our thousand-year-old vampire, I just need to know that you are in control of your new powers." Hope says

"Hope. Sweetie Sire." Lizzie says. "You've been a vampire for what, five minutes? I am just as good at this as you are. Need I remind you, my mother is a vampire."

"Who's never around." Hope points out. "Your father's an alcoholic vegetable, and your sister left you behind to go on a walkabout to 'find herself.' I can see your buttons are too easily pushed. It's the first time you're without your psychic connection to Josie, and, quite frankly, emotional stability has never been at the top of your résumé. If you can't control your emotions, you have no shot at controlling your powers... aka useless to me. So consider this to be Vampire 101. I'm not severing the sire bond until we catch Aurora. And I'm not doing that until you impress me."

"Then prepare to be impressed." Lizzie says, pushing past Hope to the man at the stand. "Excuse me. You're going to let me and my friend in." She says, trying to use compulsion

"Yeah. And you're gonna give me money." The man retorts

"Let us in... and give us all the money in your cashbox, too." Hope says, using compulsion successfully and the man complies. "Oh, don't worry, compulsion's tricky." She tells Lizzie. "But I do believe the score is one to zero."

"Step right up, join the fun." A Carny announces at a hammer game. "You ladies want to test your strength? Or are you too delicate?"

"All right. Test number two." Hope tells Lizzie

"Make the bell ring?" Lizzie asks

"No. Anyone can do that. I want you to practice controlling your strength." Hope says. "Get as close as you can to the top without actually touching the bell. Closest wins."

The Carny hands the hammer to Hope but she waves it off. "Okay, have it your way, darlin'." He tells her

Hope touches the lever and makes it close to the top without touching. "Thank you." She tells the Carny, grabbing her winning tickets. "Your turn." She tells Lizzie. Lizzie touches the lever and the object shoots off the top of the game, passing the bell. Lizzie looks back at Hope. "Two...zero." She says while counting her tickets

"Sorry about your little tower, darlin'." Lizzie tells the Carny

"This sucks." Lizzie says as the group walks through the carnival at night

"Oh, I'm having plenty of fun. What's the score again?" Hope asks

"You know what it is." Lizzie tells her

"No, I forgot. Remind me." Hope says

"Seven to nothing." Lizzie says. Sadie internally sighs. It had been a long day for her staying invisible. "Okay, fine, you've made your point. Tell me what I have to do to get this over with."
