Strawberry Daiquiri
"Eve, can you please go with me to shop for deb dresses? I don't think I can survive a shopping trip alone." Belly asked over the phone.
"Ugh, I wish. My mom is making me go to the pool before tea."
"She's making you go to the pool? That sounds nothing like your mom.""Harris and his mom will be there."
"Nevermind, that sounds exactly like your mom. When is she going to give up on the whole Harris thing? You guys broke up months ago, and haven't talked since." Evelyn didn't respond, the silence telling Belly everything. "Wait, did something happen last night?"
"Okay, so like, he and I may have talked at the bonfire."
"Talked? Or made out?"
"Both."
"I thought we established that you guys don't work." Belly recalled.
"No, we established that we don't work during the rest of the year. We were great last summer. Plus, I don't need to date him, I just need him to be my escort to the deb ball."
"Whatever you say, Eve."
"Enough about me, who was that super cute guy that you kissed goodnight?"
"Oh- I- He-" Belly stumbled over her words, clearly embarrassed.
Evelyn laughed. "Spit it out, Belly!"
"Cam. His name's Cam."
"Why don't I recognize him?"
"He lives at Cousins all year. We met at a Latin convention in seventh grade, though, so he isn't a total stranger."
"Damn, I knew you'd pull bitches this summer."
"Shut up!" Belly said, giggling.
"Okay, well, I have to go, but I'll see you at the tea today, right?"
"Unfortunately."
"Be positive! It'll be great, I know it."

Jeremiah sat in his lifeguard chair, surveying the pool and all the people spending their time there. The sun was warm, the wooden chair was surprisingly comfortable, and he was enjoying the brand new summer. He continued to watch the kids splashing as his thoughts shifted to the night before. The events were overwhelming, and had left his emotions scattered. He had laid awake all night, trying to figure out why he ran back to the bonfire to save the girl who he hated. Why he caught himself staring at her while he was stopped at red lights on the drive home that was trailed by the cops. Why he hadn't realized how glad he was that she and Harris had broken up until he saw them together again.
As if his thoughts had somehow manifested her, Evelyn walked into the pool's entrance, greeting people with a smile and wave. She claimed a chair in the sun and began laying out her things on the chair. Jeremiah took one last glance at the pool before moving off his chair and towards her. He secretly loved making her playfully upset and their stupid "arguments". He had already planned what he would say, teasing her about showing up to the pool because she knew he would be there. However, before he reached her, the smile he hadn't realized was on his face fell. She had turned and waved to Harrison, who had also been walking towards her, just as Jeremiah was.
She was there for him.

Evelyn laid out her towel on her chair, and turned around in time to see him walking towards her with a smile on his face. Harris. She had missed this. Had missed him. She waved and smiled, excited to spend the day with him.
