I made it to Finn's game. Right on time.

"I'm sure she'll be here Finney! Just wait."

"But what if she-" Finn stopped as he saw me approaching.

"Y/N! Woah, are you okay?" Finn asked

Before I could answer him, I had to take a second to catch my breath.

"Yeah, I'm fine! It's not every day you run half a mile to the fields." I replied while panting.

"Half a mile?! Y/N, there's something seriously wrong with you." Finn said

"Maybe. Hey Finn?"

"Yeah?"

"Don't you have a game to go win?" I reminded him

"Shit! Talk to you guys after" He ran off.

After a minute or two, I finally caught my breath.

"You okay now?" Gwen asked

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay" I replied

"Good because someone is walking over here right now." She cooed

What?

"Hey!" a boy said from my left.

Oh shit.

"Hey Robin!" Gwen said

Robin Arellano.

The boy everyone was scared of.
The boy I had a crush on.

To everyone else in town, Robin was the boy whom every other kid in Denver knew not to mess with.

But I had the honor to be his friend.

Best friend, like he had said once.

Behind the wall of confidence that protects him, Robin was kind. Thoughtful.

While everyone thought he would just fight to fight, he always had a reason.

Which I guess is why I liked him so much.

"Y/N?" Robin said, confused as to why I hadn't greeted him back yet.

"Huh? Oh. Sorry! Hey Robin. How are you?" I asked, trying to move on

"I'm alright. Better now that I'm here honestly." He replied.

Here. Better now that he's here. With me.

'And Gwen' I had to remind myself.

"That's good." I smiled.

Robin smiled back at me and put his arm around me while we were standing.

This is normal best friend behavior. Right?

Right?

From the corner of my eye, I could see Gwen smiling at me. I returned her look, and we started laughing. Me and Robin? Please. Never in a million years.

Best friends. Nothing more, nothing less.

Did I want it to be more?"

By the time I snapped out of my thoughts, Finn was up next.

"You got this, Finn!" I yelled

He didn't get it. So close.

After the game was over, we waited for Finn by the sidewalk.

I noticed him talking to Bruce Yamada.

Nice guy. I think. Certainly not bad with the ladies.

"It's alright Finney. There's always next time." Gwen said, trying to comfort her brother.

"Yeah. Next time." Finn said

I could tell he was upset so I thought of the perfect way to cheer him up.

"Ice cream? I know this really good place down the street." I said, hoping they would agree.

"Sure. Ice cream can't hurt anyone." Finn said

And so down the street we went. To cheer Finn up.

"I swear! Y/N totally jinxed it!" Finn said loudly

"Did not! It's called encouragement Finn! Next time what do you want me to say? Go lose?" I laughed

It was moments like this that truly made me happy. Moments I wish I could live in forever.

However, I don't think life is that kind to anyone.

By the time we finished our conversation at the ice cream parlor, the sun was setting.

"See you guys at school tomorrow!" Gwen and Finn said as they began to walk home.

It was just me and Robin now.

"Want me to walk you home? It's on my way as well." Robin offered

"Yes. I would like that." I replied, smiling.

He smiled back.

Huh. His smile looked like it could cheer anyone up. Too bad people rarely see it. I see it quite often, but I never pay much attention to it. I wonder why I did all of a sudden.

We talked the whole way there about a lot of things. School, home, ourselves. It was refreshing.

Needed.

I know I can talk to my parents about everything. But sometimes you just need a friend.

A best friend.

And in my case, a Robin.

"See you tomorrow, Robin." I said to him as I walked to the entrance of my home

"Good night, Y/N. See you tomorrow." He replied from the end of the driveway

I waved him off as I entered my house.

"Mama? Dad?" I called out into the empty living room.

"We're in here sweetie!" I heard my Dad's voice call out from our dining room.

"Hey guys!" I greeted them

"Hi, my love" my mother replied. "Heading up to bed?"

"Yeah. I'm tired." I answered

"Okay. Do me a favor love. Wake up early tomorrow. Your father and I want to ask you something." Mom said

Oh?

"Okay. Good night Mama. Good night Dad." I said tiredly, in desperate need of sleep.

"Good night!" They called after me

I took a shower and brushed my teeth before bed.

I wonder what they have to ask me.

'Eh. That's tomorrow's problem.' I thought as I slowly fell asleep.
