Esmé’s POV
A nurse had once again notified me that I had fully recovered with no major damage done, other than my broken arm; luckily it was my left arm. Still, how could I have survived that with nothing more than a headache and a broken arm? I wondered about that but decided not to overthink, nor to ever press my luck. I’m pretty sure that used up the rest of it. I stood up a little dazed at first, but it quickly passed. The nurse had kindly brought me a change of clothes and had placed them neatly on the night stand. They were folded so perfectly that at first I didn’t want to disturb them but people would stare if I went out in these hideous hospital clothes. I quickly changed out of it into a soft, green t-shirt and a pair of faded blue jeans, they almost fit perfectly. We stepped into the waiting room only to find my mom crying her heart out. “What’s wrong?” I asked very confused.
I knew Aileen had some sort of bad tidings. “Esmé your dad...he’s, he’s...well..dead.
“What?...No...He can’t be....” I burst into tears. Aileen’s shoulder quickly became drenched with tears. I knelt there, in the middle of the waiting room, sobbing. Everyone who was absorbed in their own business were now staring at us with looks of sympathy and confusion in their eyes. Aileen hugged me a tear sliding down her cheek, how I needed her here. I let go of Aileen and dropped to the floor, my face buried in my hands.
“It’s all my fault....,” I muttered, “It’s my fault he’s gone.”
‘What are you talking about?” Aileen asked
“But it is,” As I unburied my face from my hands I saw Aileen’s soft hazel eyes staring back at me, “If I hadn’t been standing in his way, he wouldn’t have swerved out of the way. He wouldn’t have crashed. It’s all my fault.” I managed to say through a bunch of sobs.
“It’s no one's fault Ez and it’s definitely not yours!”
“But it is,” No matter what Aileen said I couldn’t shake of the feeling that it was my fault, "He's gone, because of me.”
Sorry it's been so long and that the chapter is so short. But we're back! The picture is of Esmé's dad, Mr.Valdez. Vote, comment, fan!
