Chapter 9: Damien- What Just Happened

"..." I was in my bedroom, verbally bullying myself on my idiotic actions.

"Did this really have to happen? Ugh," I pulled at my hair angrily.

I closed my eyes, trying to think of something to distract me.

And I failed miserably. All that came to mind was Akira's innocent eyes niavely feasting on my embarrassing figure.

It's not like he did it on purpose, it's a human impulse to stare at something shocking.

He's probably still out there...

I sighed as I stood tall across my bedroom mirror. After flexing, I found that I was actually in okay shape. I hadn't pulled weights in quite a while, but jogging had become a hobby of mine. What had Akira thought of my body? Was I average? Or did he see me as handsome? I knew that I had a pretty-boy complexion, and not because of my immortality.

Why was I being like this? Caring about what another guy thought about me? My nonexistant heart thudded in my chest as I pulled my dinner attire over my body. Just get over it...

I climbed down the stairs to find the person I feared to see, standing right next to Felicia, smiling.

Akira seemed to be getting along pretty well with Felicia...

Something seemed wrong.

Oh, that was why...

They'd pulled out my photo book.

I froze as all my pictures zoomed past my eyes in my mind. What would he think of my younger, childish photos? Would he laugh? Ridicule me? Praise me?

And the most important question was: Why did I care so much?

"And here's Damien playing in the farm field," Felicia snickered as Akira let out the cute giggles we both had no clue he could release.

"Huh..." Akira looked closer at the picture as his chuckles subsided. I froze; these pictures had been taken when I was quite a few years ago: In the year 1826. "Why does everything look so old and grainy?"

"Uh," Felicia struggled to come up with a lie.

"My father couldn't afford a digital camera," I spoke casually, hiding my fear.

"Oh," Akira smiled as he met my gaze.

Thump.

There it was again! That weird noise coming from my chest...

"So, shouldn't we get to the kitchen?" I folded my hands over my elbows when I reached the bottom of the steps and leaned against the wooden railing.

"Damien, don't be rude! Let us enjoy your memories," Felicia smiled mischievously as I rolled my eyes.

"Alright, I'll be tossing the salad," I walked into the hallway, taking one last, (longing?) glance at Akira.

"I always get stuck with the grimy jobs..." I muttered begrudgingly. I pulled my sleeves to my forearm and began to prepare the salad.
