There are 13 stages to get to the illusion maze, it took them a while to get there because there were so many puzzles to solve. Even Xavier struggled to remember one puzzle, but Claire managed to solve it, 

Before reaching the illusion maze, they came across four floating smoke spirits or looking like a fox fire with different colors and a statue that was connected to the door. Xavier grabbed the spirits as they floated on his hand, but they don't appear to awaken.
