WHEN YOU WERE AROUND

Your words would stab me
You'd put me down
I began to hate myself
I started to drown
People were talking
Rumors flew around town
Life was dark, not worth living
When you were around

Your absence depressed me
The silence so loud
My broken heart was your trophy
My pain made you proud
My hands over my ears
To cover the sound
Of my poor heart breaking
When you were not around

My tears would shield me
You'd smile at my frown
Intentional, uncontrollable pain
Is all that all that I found
And yet I still went under
When you were not around

How naive and blind I was
My head up in the clouds
You were mean, I was stupid
And I let myself myself down
But I am not worthless
And I know that now
The only time I thought I was
Was when you were around
