As I sat at the outside veranda of the cafe I'm meeting Rika at, I can't help but smile, since after being on a trip with her friends, she's finally back. I mean, of course I've missed her, she's my girlfriend after all. Figuring she should be here any time now, I took out my earbuds and put away my phone, instead focusing on looking out for her.
Since I started dating Rika and swore to myself to try to start living in the present again rather than the aimless way I was when I still was stuck focusing on my past heartache, I feel like I'm finally getting back on track. I actually feel motivated to work and improve rather than just doing it out of obligation, and I'm not spending quite as much time at home when I'm free.
As I saw her headed towards the cafe, I raised my arm so Rika would see where I was, and I saw her headed my way soon after.
"Welcome back Beautiful." I said as she reached the table "How was Yokohama?"
After she got to the table, she leaned closer to me and gave me a kiss before she said "It was great, it's always a ton of fun to go traveling with my friends, but by the end I was definitely missing you."
"Same, I've been looking forward to meeting up like this since we decided on the time last night." I said
"I brought something back for you Y/n." Rika said, handing me a bag
I took the bag, and after looking inside noticed that they were small pie-like things. "Thanks Rika, I'll be sure to enjoy them later." I said, placing them under my seat.
A waitress soon came out to take our orders before leaving to go grab our drinks, letting us return to our conversation.
"By the way Rika, I realized the other day that it's been just about a year since I met you and really got to know you." I said
"Really? The time really has flown by, huh?" Rika said
"For sure, it has blown by like a whirlwind, but I've had a ton of fun and changed so much. I'm so grateful that I was able to end up with you like this. I love you Rika, and I want you to know that." I said
"I love you too Y/n." Rika said, showing me that brilliant smile that always lights up my day
Rika and I spent a while longer talking about her trip to Yokohama and what went on while she was away. One of these days, maybe I should try to see if Rika would be up to go on a trip with me somewhere... er, if I had any ideas as to where to go, I haven't really thought about anything like this until now.
After a while, I stretched out and said "Hey, my roommate is going to be out today, so if you'd like we could hang out at my place. I mean it's better than hanging out in the hot, right?"
"Yeah alright, I'm good with hanging out at your place." Rika said
We got up and grabbed our stuff before we started heading over to my place, however, as we got closer to my neighborhood, I saw a familiar face headed this way, it was my ex.
However, rather than focus on her and all the pain she put me through, after she greeted us, I gave her an indifferent reply, after which, she frowned and quickly left. I don't need to hold onto that anymore, I've found Rika now, and despite my own flaws, I've ended up happier than I ever was with her. So for now, I'm just gonna try to get back to moving forward with a smile on my face.
As we got to my apartment, I lifted the souvenir bag and said "Living room is right ahead, I'm gonna go put this away."
I luckily don't have to worry about the place being presentable, with how often Ryunosuke has his girlfriend over, he keeps the place pretty tidy. I'd say they might as well move in together, but I don't know where that'd leave me. I moved to Tokyo for school after all.
As I passed into the living room, I joined Rika on the couch, and as I looked forward to enjoying a fun evening with this free-spirited beauty, I silently thanked the Universe for giving me the chance to meet somebody so special.
