chapter twelve-

DEATH

· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·

The sky was like a waking faucet. A multitude of colours pouring out. The sun shone brightly as it was peeking over the horizon, preparing for a long day of shining. The typical sunrise hues of blood and papaya orange, blueish purples and deep yellows overtook the rising sky.

Nurses were wandering around the busy corridors, preparing for the oncoming day. The slight buzz of emergency makes the hospital halls feel alive. The nurses rushing around with a sense of urgency in their walks, almost reminded me of Tokyo's crossings.

As Nurse Blanca was doing her morning routines, rounds of checking patients' vitals in the long term overnight ward, checking they were healthy and so on, she came across something odd.

"Mierda." She cursed as she opened the door to room 210 just to find nobody occupied in it. Nurse Blanca racked her brain until a warm smile overtook her face instead of the previous worried one she was displaying.

While Ellie disappearing from her room throughout the day was nothing out of the ordinary, Nurse Blanca had been updated on Ellie's current condition, only causing extra concern, almost one that wasn't needed at all.

Nurse Blanca was a middle aged Spanish nurse. She had been working in this hospital since she had graduated and found her first job. Hence why she knew Ellie so well. Since Ellie had come into the hospital at her young age, Blanca had always been the one to take care of her, and as she became more experienced, she was Ellie's head nurse. She worked closely with Doctor Juan when discussing her condition, because at the end of the day, they only wanted what was best for her.

Of course Blanca mainly took on the challenge because she was curious. Curious of this unknown illness Ellie had. And while the curious pity was exhilarating whenever they thought they discovered something new, Blanca couldn't help but think about what her loved ones and even Ellie thought of her situation.

Not knowing anything about your health must be so frightening. And even at such a young age. While Ellie studied medical science and biology books from front to cover since she was old enough to consepyuakise her illness, how was it possible for her to understand it fully when doctors and scientists knew next to nothing about it either, let alone for it to be printed into a dated education book.

It was honestly something Blanca admired about Ellie. How she appeared so strong. Of course Ellie had the occasional mental breakdown every now and then (that Nurse Blanca was aware of at least), but hey, who can't relate to that?

Knowing the life expectancy of the only previous four recorded cases of her disease were ranged between ages of ten to sixteen must be petrifying. How come she had survived this long?

Ellie was currently aged twenty one. The Spaniard didn't need to be a rocket scientist to recognise that she was nearing the end of her rope. She knew she had very limited time left, at least that's what the facts told her. It was a miracle she had lived this long in her eyes.

So because of the previous fact, and the few new symptoms that kept popping up like that annoying game at arcades where you smash those moles. Honestly the human race nowadays, I'm shaking my head. Anyways, of course these symptoms caused caution and worry to spike with the doctors, and they came to the conclusion that the said symptoms may be signs Ellie was nearing her end.

Though because it was such an unknown, it was like taking a stab in the dark. Nobody was sure of anything, and really, that scared the hell out of Ellie.
