Family Game Night

One week before [Player] enters.

Ambush sighed, depressing silence shrouding the room.

"Iiiiiiiiiii'm boooooooooooooored...." Rush whined, being his usual kiddy self. Ambush and Rush were sitting either side of a large room, watching the wind outside bully the hotel. It was strange here; it always rained. Ambush hadn't seen the sun in so long she'd forgotten what it looked like. She pictured the sun as a large layer of light. She sometimes searched or any idea on what the sun could have looked like. There were many, many books in the Hotel, but none of them had any pictures of the sun and they were mostly bout poetry, sicknesses and used big fancy words Ambush couldn't understand yet.

Figure came bumbling into the room, trying to feel around the walls. The two entities sprung up from their place on the floor and stampeded to Figure. "Hey, Figure! Need any help getting around?" They cried, desperate for something to do.

The Figure, on the other hand, swiveled from side to side, trying to get the two to slow down. They were flying around it too fast and it had to stagger into the door frame and shut them up with a shrill roar.

Seek, Jack, Screech and Eyes were playing cards.

"There. I win," said Jack, tossing his final card onto the pile. "I'm safe from cleaning The Room today."

Screech glowered at his fifteen cards. "Why do I have so many?"

"Now, now, Screech," interrupted Seek. "Don't whine about it. And by the way, I win. Jack's card is the wrong color."

"No, it's not," said Eyes, squinting back and forth between their cards and the pile. "I think he does win."

"You're all so unreasonable," said Halt from a large, springy seat next to the fireplace. "You do realize if I'd played I'd have kicked your–"

Timothy jumped onto her book, and she was about to flick him off when she noticed Jack looking at her. She decided against killing the infuriating spider and picked him up by the leg, trying to suppress a shiver, and placed him on Seek's head. Seek hadn't noticed because he was too busy debating with the Eyes whether Jack won.

Seek felt a tingling sensation on his forehead and put a sticky hand to it, trying to identify the strange object. He was met with Timothy poking his little face into view. Seek screamed and started flailing around, frantically pulling at Timothy and slapping his own face.

Suddenly, in came Ambush, Rush and Figure.  "WE WANNA PLAY!"

"NOT YET," Screech screamed back. "I'M TRYING TO WIN HERE!"

"We're trying to find a good way to tell who cleans, you know, The Room." said Eyes, nodding to a door in the far corner.

"I'll do it," said Halt after a moment's silence. "Just so you'd all be quiet."

The Room's lights were off. It smelled clean and disinfected, and it was way too cold for an Infirmary. Halt shut the door behind her and looked around at the old beds lined against the wall. The sheets had been removed years ago, burnt for safety. There was a large stain on the floor, probably left from one of the bodies being dropped on the floor. Halt remembered Finder telling her about how she'd been in one of those beds once. How she'd passed away in the bed once. How everyone there got sick, and how all of the dead had to be burned along with all of their possessions.

Plagues were scary.

That didn't matter. There weren't any plagues anymore.

The bucket, mop and duster were stacked against the wall, and Halt got to work.
