Fear is darkness, faith is light. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it," (John 1:5). "Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light," (John 12:36). Thus in faith "You are the light of the world," (Matthew 5:14). So "Let your light shine before others...," (Matthew 5:16). Why? Because it sets a positive example, the sort that results in the witnesses to our light--to the way we live our lives--glorifying our heavenly Father.
Fear, on the other hand, sets a negative example. (See Deuteronomy 20:8; Judges 7:3.)
The light that is faith "comes from hearing the message," (Romans 10:17). And the message is:
"Do not be afraid..."
