LITAIT TAKES A LOT OF ENERGY TO OPEN MY EYES, BUT I MANAGE TO OPEN MY EYELIDS SLOWLY. The first thing I see is Scarlett. She's laying beside me, still asleep.
I take in the scene before me, or like... try to. Everything feels like a fever dream. Nothing feels real.
I feel her move on top of me, which pulls me out of my sleepy trance. One leg over mine, her head fits perfectly into the face of my neck.
"Scarly?" She doesn't reply. I'm only met by silence. "I know you're awake."
"Morning." She pushes herself up slowly, stretching as she does so. "Did you sleep well?"
I always sleep well when I'm with you.
She laughs.
Wait what?!
As much as I love her laugh I didn't say anythin-
Oh.
"Did I say that out loud?"
She nods, still laughing. I knew it. I just had to find a way to embarrass myself within the 24 hours after she came back.
I groan, lifting the covers of the bed to hide. Scarlett pulls them down though, "But don't worry it was cute."
We lay in silence, just enjoying each other's presence. I'm glad she's back now. I've missed more than I thought I would during the past month.
With the whole house silent, we could perfectly hear Rose's bedroom door open. I hear Scarlett sigh before pushing herself up and off the bed. She puts on her slippers and extend her hand for me to grab.
Yeah, no.... I'm not getting up.
"Rose's awake, and it's 7:30, we have to get up come on." She grabs one of my arms and pulls.
"I don't wanna go to work today. I want to stay with you instead." I whine like a kid who doesn't want to go to school.
"Not today Lita. Let's get up yeah?"
"You're no fun." She laugh and leaves the room before Rose had enough time to do something stupid or something she's not supposed to. Her laugh echoes through the hallway as she walks further and further away from the bedroom.
I just roll over and bury my head in the pillows. Scarlett's still smelled like her. I mean, what am I saying?! Of course it smells like her. I'm in her house, in her bed to be precise, AND I'm wearing her clothes.
Glad to know my brain decided not to work today. We'll just say I'm still tired if anyone asks.
The door creaks open and the next thing I hear are small patters on the ground. Too light and small to belong to Scarlett, that means they're Rose's.
Sure enough, when I sit up, I see her try to climb up the bed. To make things easier, and to avoid an accident and possible tantrum, I grab her and sit her down beside me. "Mama told me to come and get you."
"Oh did she now?"
She nods before adding, "She making breakfast."
"Well, if she's making breakfast I guess I'll get up then." I place her on my hip and walked to the kitchen. Funny because I now know where everything in this apartment is, it's almost as if I've always lived here, yet I only spend one or two nights at a time. I stayed over at her place like 3 or 4 times now?
"And she's up." Scarlett teases. Her back is to us, I guess we were as quiet as I thought. I place Rose down on a chair. I suppose she was already sitting there judging by the pens and markers and papers that were left there. Without wasting any time, she's back to drawing what looks like a house in the forest? I'm not sure.
"Yeah, yeah."
"I knew you still couldn't say no to Rose." She continues with a teasing tone.
Hey!
"Oh don't pout." She walked over and kisses my cheek. The pout turns into a smile which makes her smile as well. "There." She goes back to the pancakes that are still coking, we don't want them to burn.
Meanwhile, I get started on a hot chocolate for Rose as per her request and get started on some tea and coffee for me and Scar.
When Scarlett is done, she turns off the stove and plates the pancakes. I set the rest of the table, grabbing forks, knifes and spoons.
We eat all together, it's a pretty calm breakfast. Rose told us some more about the new toy Scarlett got her, and now I swear it's her favourite thing. She's the first one to finish her breakfast, even with all the talking she's done and runs off as soon as her mother says she's excused.
Scarlett and I are now alone together. She grips her mug, still filled with coffee. She looks like she wants to say something. "We still need to have that talk." She breaks the silence.
I hate those words. Even with the context in which we are, I still hate them. We had a month to think about the whole situation. What if she changed her mind?! What if she was wrong?,!
"So, how about... I drop off Rose t my mom's for the night, then I stop by the shop and pick you up and we could go back to your place for dinner?" She suggests.
Honestly, if we could put it off indefinitely, I wouldn't mind. I shouldn't say that, we need to talk.
"That sounds like a plan!"
And before I know it, my time is up, and I have to leave. I quickly got dressed, packed my stuff. I almost forgot the book Scarlett got for me, but I remembered last minute. Phew.
Both girls say goodbye at the front door. "See you tonight!"
"What's tonight?" Rose asks innocently, looking at her mom, confused.
"Nothing, sweet girl. See you tonight darling." I see her smirk. Damn, she knows what she's doing.
Oh, I hate drunk me for telling her I liked when she calls me that right now.
"You should get going, or you're gonna be late." She almost pushes me out the door. Rose and Scar wave at me as I walk away.
I hear the door close a second later. It makes me sad, kind of. But I don't stay sad for every long, I have something to look forward. I'm seeing Scar tonight.
Yeah, see you tonight Scarly!
