"Hange?" I call out through the hallway, I can't find her anywhere and we are overdue on a bunch of paperwork about Eren and if we don't get it to Erwin soon we are done for. I may be the opposite of Hange in the loud and annoying tense, I think that might be why we get along so well. Opposites attract I guess. "Hange where the fuck are you?" I shout, running from space to space until I meet talking at the front of Levi's office.

I'll admit, he is attractive. I've admired him since he got here six years ago and to be honest yes I do have a small, okay large, crush on him but that sounds stupid, we are adults not middle schoolers and he also doesn't talk to me much, even if we always happen to be near eachother. I knock on his door, and Hange swings it open before I could even blink.

"F/n! You're here! I knew you'd find us." Hange says while dragging me into Levi's office. "So, you know how titan boy is on Levi's squad?" I look at her with a confused look and she continues "We get to experiment on him for the next week! Levi said we could, we are moving straight back out to the castle." They say. I look at Levi but as soon as we lock eyes he moves his gaze to the freshly swept hardwood floor.

"That's great Hange, but I'm a chemist, you know this, how would I be of help?" I say, still leaving an eye on Levi. He looked confused at what I said.

Hange notices the direction my gaze is in and turns around to see Levi's face of confusion. "Levi, did you not know F/n is a chemist?"

"Of course I did, she's my comrade. How would I not?" He says, holding his cup of tea in the strangest way I've ever seen anyone hold anything. Ever.

"I don't know but you seem very confused." Hange says. "Anyways, F/n one of our goals is to see if we can form a liquid that could help us preserve titan flesh without it evaporating on us, you think you can do that?"

"Well, I have some Ideas." I respond.

"Oh really? How would you suppose we do that?" Levi says, placing his cup on his desk behind him.

"We would use formaldehyde, the same kind of substance that preserves animals. It simulates the same idea of the titan being alive but without the shifter and without the whole body. If we are able to inject the formalin into the chuck of flesh, then we can look at it under a microscope to see how and why titan limbs are so lightweight." I respond very matter-of-factly.

"Yeah, but do we have formalin?" He asks while inching closer to me.

"Well, I do happen to have a lot left over from the cadets stupid animal preserving ceremony for their fish thing that happened the other day, so yes, yes I do have formalin." I say, I look at Hange as a cue to leave and wave at Levi on the way out.

Levi has to come anyway, due to Levi being Eren's squad leader which personally I'm a-okay with but he still seems, distant.

We reach the castle at 18:00 and decide that we will start the experiments bright and early at 08:00 the next morning. The people with us are Levi, all of Levi squad (Petra, Eld, Gunthar, Oluo), Moblit and of course Eren.

I have around ten liters of formalin with me and I decide that to make sure everything goes over well, I'll test the formalin with a basic animal outside like a bug. I sprint outside before it gets dark and grab the first small animal I can find, a worm, and I sadly have to suffocate it for the test run.

"Sorry little buddy." I say as I carefully put the worm in a small jar as I fill it up with the chemical. So the trick for the titan is to work fast, like really fast. The procedure is; cut a sample off from the tip of the finger and quickly place in a larger jar pre-filled with the solution and wait to see if the titan would evaporate.
