"DIEGO, DIEGO!!""MR.LAINEZ, LOOK THIS WAY."
"BIG SMILE DIEGO!!"
"TAKE A PHOTO WITH US DIEGO"
"FACE THE CAMERA FOR US MR. LAINEZ."
everything is loud and bright. the sound of multiple cameras being flickered, and many fans screaming his name. diego struggles to walk his way through the adoring crowd. his personal security guards roughly pushing everyone away from the 22 year old. the double doors to the gymnasium never felt so far.
diego lainez, an amazing footballer and Mexico's heartthrob. poor man has every girl on a chokehold, and he can never go out without a shriek of a bunch of fan girls. he's grateful, at least he should be, for his fan base. without their support he wouldn't have made it far. that's something he constantly has to remind himself. it's the only thing keeping him sane.
after what feels like an entirety, diego walks into the building. "should we escort you to the gym mr. lainez?" one of his well-trained security guard offered. "no thank you, i should be fine to walk alone. thank you and i'll see you guys after practice."
strolling through the squeaky clean halls made of white marble, he can't help but feel like he's never going to get used to the fame. all the photos, bright flashes, multiple people screaming his name. all of it echo's and repeats in his mind.
he's so deep in thought he doesn't realize the person in front of him asking for assistance. diego takes one earbud off and stares at the girl ahead of him. his first thought, a fan girl.
"sorry no autographs or photos today! not sure how you even managed to sneak in.." he awkwardly looks around, avoiding eye contact and scratches his neck sheepishly. "i'll call security for you though."
"you humor me, mr lainez. i'm y/n l/n, a new athletic trainer. i was asking directions for the medical center, please do not mistake me for your fan girls." you said it in the most polite professional tone. you didn't notice that for diego it came off as passive aggressive with a sprinkle of attitude.
"sheesh, my bad. no need to catch an attitude.." he mumbles, "medic center? pass the two double doors, take a left and there should be a giant 'MEDICAL CENTER' sign." he made a gesture on how big the sign would be, trying to be visual. "no chance you'll miss it."
"okay thank you." you turn your heels and walked out of his sight.
"what a bitch. you humor me." lainez mocks you as he takes his sweet time to the locker room.
walking into the locker room was shockingly quiet. diego looks around, nobody to seem to in the room. he makes his way to his locker and changes his attire. when pulling a shirt over his head he catches a glimpse of the clock. of course, he was late.
rushing, diego enters the gym to be greeted with the 'bitch' who he had just saw.
"why the fuck.." he whispers in disbelief. i thought she needed to go to the medical center, why is she here?
"lainez, finally! i was waiting for everyone to be here to introduced our new athletic trainer for the team. this is miss y/n l/n. she's studied in.." everything else that comes out the coach's mouth after the introduction goes static.
diego has came to the realization the 'bitch' he referred to earlier is his teams new athletic trainer. once the thought of y/n annoyingly lecturing everyone or giving passive aggressive comments finally registered. i have to trust HER with MY injuries..? how annoying. he spoke one of his thoughts out loud before he could even process it.
"god damn it."
unfortunately, it was loud enough for everyone to stop what they were doing to look over at lainez. "everything okay diego? do you not like miss l/n??" memo gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
"huh oh yeah, uh no! it's actually, i uh left the stove on!! my bad guys, please continue talking." a lame excuse but it worked to get the attention off him. he smiled at his coach and the rest of the team. he slowly takes a seat nearby and listens to y/n introduce herself. well i'm sure i've made a horrific impression on her..
after a few minutes go by, y/n makes her way over to diego. "mr lainez, can i speak to you for a brief moment?"
he mentally sighs before he puts on the fakest brightest smile and faces her. "to what do i owe the pleasure miss l/n?" god that sounded so fake, maybe she'll pay no attention to it.
"please, call me y/n. also, i understand this morning we got off the wrong foot. we should forget about it and re-meet each other." your smile and words were genuine. you didn't mean any harm or have any problems with any of the players, especially since you'll be working with them for a while.
"yeah just stay out my way and we'll be fine." his rude response caught you off guard.
his rude remark surly didn't go unnoticed. the way your smile slowly faded to a deadpan face was extremely noticeable. "oh okay, i understand." you smile at him once again and turn around. my god, what a bitch you thought to yourself. keep that same energy when you get hurt
you take the time to personally introduce yourself to all the teammates. it would only be morally correct to get on everyone's good side, right? you'd be working, eating, and traveling by their side! so why is it that diego wants you to stay out the way? it was nearly impossible. you were so deep in thought you hadn't noticed one of the guys calling you.
"uh, miss l/n?" a guy around your age, maybe older, waving his hand in front of your face.
"hm? i'm so sorry kevin, right? what did you say?" you look up hoping you got his name right. i guess it is necessary to learn all 26 names and more? "no yeah you're right. i was just wondering if you and diego are good? i couldn't help but overhear your guys' conversation" kevin's confession caught you by surprised. overhearing a conversation my ass. chismoso..
"I appreciate the concern but i think we'll be just fine. i'm only here to do my job, i've learned the hard way i can't befriend everybody." you say loud enough to catch a certain person's attention.
diego doesn't miss your side comment about him.
