I relistened to a lot of creepypastas and mlp grimdark fics lately, and I felt inspired to do something similar of my own.
I have no idea if I succeeded with the horror aspect and all. But know that this could be canon in that particular AU, as it kept an overall nature-dominated world, with lots of unexplored mysterious places no one's ever been in, and so where weird things could hide in... And we're still talking about an AU that transforms an humanoid species with weird proprieties into centaur creatures, so strange paranormal beings are not too far-fetched.
Anyway, at least I tried, can't be good in all genres I guess 🤷🏻♀️
For more information on the Wild AU, the chapter on the CT AU is still present in my headcanon book.
______________________________________As far as he could remember, the wild had been his home. Even when his younger self had been stuck with his siblings, they never knew anything else. Now that he had gained his independence, living alone on his fields, Ukraine had acknowledge that he was small, a simple little creature, in the land of the great and the unknown. And he wasn't bothered by that.
He liked his little insignificant life, only him, his fields and his house. It meant only him, his routines and his crops directed it, no external forces daring to put extra weight on his shoulders for some kind of "divine purpose", like the old people used to make themselves believe. He was a simple deer living his life, nothing more, nothing less.
He was alone in that place, his little house built in some kind of plains, perfect place for him to stay close by his fields, close yet far enough from a seemingly endless forest. He never went there much, maybe sometime he would go get some wood, but it was the limits of what he would call his land. It was other animals' territory, not his. It was too big and dense for him to explore it completely anyway.
And so it was, therefore, this part of the plain that was his, rare were the animals staying on it for long periods of time like he did. Only occasionally would he see something bigger than a mouse come by, and it would leave as quick as it came. It was like an unspoken contract between him and the rest of the wildlife.
It was like that with every animal but one. Humans. They fell from grace way before Ukraine had first seen the light of day, and this feralness of theirs had mixed with their old obsession of owning any piece of land they would come across. So Ukraine had to be cautious with them.
Even if wolves and bears would sometime stumble upon his propriety to hunt, humans were way more persistent, making them somewhat more dangerous even.
But lately, something else was there with him. The first strange occurrence happened in the middle of an afternoon.
It was near the end of summer. After a long day of physical labor, Ukraine had decided to spend the remaining time taking a nap outside, on the very green grass surrounding his house. The time, the weather... Everything was suitable for it.
So he had laid there, in peace, though his sword still close-by in the rare case that something would come disturb his rest.
As usual, everything around him was quiet, only birds would sing their songs, and maybe a few bugs too. But then, his keen ear would twitch toward a perceived anomaly. Something trying to traverse the foliage.
He opened an eye, raised his head and humanoid torso in direction of the odd sound that caught his attention. It was toward his sunflower field.
When it had been discovered that sunflower oil could be made, Ukraine had planted a whole field of them, and other centaur fellows would come a lot to get some of it.
Anyway, something had decided to pass through it. It could be a mouse, he already saw a few of them there more than once, there must have been more but they quite liked to hide. It was the kind of place they loved being in, nothing surprising.
