I know, I'm making too much Fredly x Russany related stuff. But isn't it normal to be that proud of your ocs ? Idk

Anyway, I'm not going to stop.

So, I have been highly influenced by all the CH mermaid stuff I keep seeing on Instagram and other platforms. I thought it was interesting and it did increase my creativity and imagination at some point.

This fic is also taking place in another AU, another one where countries aren't really countries and live as humans (and mermaids for some). So if it's incoherent with the headcanon I presented so far, it's normal, even if I'm trying to have some kind of similarities.

Also sorry, I couldn't finish it for mermay, that's sad-

Since she was a child, Fredly always liked to go at the beach. Whether it was alone or with her family. As someone searching for loneliness, this place was the best, especially at night when tourists finally left.

She was so thankful her parents made the entire family live next to one of those mysterious littoral, considered "too dangerous" to host many strangers. Some of her brothers weren't seeing it the same way as her though. The second eldest, America, preferred the city and that's why he left as soon as he possibly could, after his 18th birthday. The others just weren't attracted by the sea, the jobs related to it not very appealing to them.

Fredly couldn't blame them, they were in need for social interaction and she wasn't. Then, her parents were the ones to leave. The company they owned required their presence a lot more than before so they had to move out, also to the city.

All these events lead Fredly to stay alone in her childhood home. It felt weird at first, but she quickly got used to it. The sea was still here for her, she spent almost the whole days walking around the quiet beach, in the soft clear sand or sitting on the nearby massive rocks, looking at the horizon.

She was staring at the constant moving water, like she was waiting to see something. Which she actually was doing. When she was younger, she heard a lot of stories about creatures living in the sea, out of human sight. The beautiful mermaids, known for driving sailors into the ocean with their charming looks and voices to drown them and feed on their flesh.

There was no real proofs of their existence, only outdated tales. But she had to admit those stories about missing people, lastly seen on their boats, were terribly strange. Fredly was sure something was behind it, and she wanted to see for herself.

She already thought about renting a boat and spend some time on water, to see if something would happen. Unfortunately, she didn't have enough money, even if her parents were financially helping her, or skills for that.

However, one random day, she hit the jackpot.

It was early in the morning. Like usual, she was about to complete her walk when she saw someone laying on the pearly yellow sand, far in her way. Fredly couldn't really see from where she was at the moment, so she sprinted, already thinking of the worst.

Maybe a swimmer got an accident or something. Or probably worst, like a murder. The reality was even more shocking than what she could have imagined. Someone was here indeed, their arm was injured, blood freely dripping from the wound onto their red skin and sand.

But, they had some kind of gills on their neck and what appeared to be a fish tail instead of a normal human bottom half, the long fins still immersed in the wavy salty water.

Was it what she thought ? Was it a prank or something real ? Could a mermaid be here, right now, on this beach the brunette knew for years, almost her entire life ? Questions aside, it did really look real, that's why she had to check if it was still alive or not.
