They told Phil he'd never make it in the ghetto. That he was some entitled white kid who was in way over his head dating Niesha and he'd dump her and run back to the suburbs within two weeks.

But Phil never gave up. Niesha wanted to be close to her family, so that's where he was going to be. Soon two weeks turned into two months, then two years, and those who'd sniffed at the pasty, wavy-haired kid from the rich side of town were eating their words. Because Phil never gave up on his work or his new community, and most importantly of all, he never gave up on Niesha.

So no one was surprised when the two of them went on to start up one of the fastest growing small businesses in the country. No one was shocked that they had six kids who went on to become even bigger success in their respective fields. Because Phil and Niesha had each other's backs, and that's what made all the difference.
