gaining from loss

we didnt leave
without gaining
something from
the other
you matured
with me.
you learned,
perhaps,
what you wanted
and what you
were looking for;
and what it meant
to be loved.
and i gained
an understanding
of love,
like what it wasnt;
like what it could be.
that sometimes
things arent
meant to last;
that you werent
right for me.
and you walked
away happy,
and i walked
away free.
even if there are
still times it feels
impossible for me
to breathe;
i would never wish
you pain -
not like the pain
that demolished me.
it isnt your fault
that i
fell in love
with someone
i was never
supposed to
have -
and never
supposed to
keep.
