Sapnap swung his axe down, splitting the log in half. He grunted in frustration as he dropped it on the ground.
Wiping his sweat with the back of his hand as he sat and leaned on the stump he was using as a chopping board for the logs that they would need for the nearing winter.
It had been at least weeks since Sapnap talked about Freya. His revelation and confession shocked and confused his best friends but it didn't matter to him.
In his head, he was just preparing himself to go away. He did mention to his friends that he promised his fathers that he would visit again, and he was allowed to, blindly.
Although the truth was, he was to try and see Freya. Despite no confirmation of her wanting to see him again, he had to see her. It was like she was eating his mind every single moment.
It frustrated him to a point that he was losing sleep. Of course, Dream was oblivious to this, seeing as he was too busy with unnecessary planning with Punz.
George however on the other hand was a different case. The brunette mushroom saw all of Sapnap's quirks and was a witness to his sleepless nights. He never approached him about it though, he already knew by how his best friend was acting. The young blaze boy had fallen deeply for the enemy.
Back to Sapnap, he was sitting down on the grass. Cooling off from the hard work he had just pulled off when he smelt it. Opening his eyes, he looked at the sky.
The moment he did so, his breath quickened and his heart started to hammer. The black smoke and smell of TNT caught his attention.
He quickly stood up and grabbed his axe. "Sapnap." Dream said from behind him. "It's L'Manberg." The brunette said as he turned to his best friend.
Dream sent him a look. A look that was saying it was out of their hands. That there was nothing pulling them to help the nation that was allegedly their enemy.
And Sapnap saw that.
"Dream-" "Sapnap. No." he said. The mere simple words made his heart ache and his breath to hitch, "Why?" he asked as the tears pooled in his eyes.
"Because they accuse us-" "But she's in there." "and they're going to accuse us again. And I can't have that." Dream continued on.
Sapnap's lips quivered, "Even for the sake of your best friend?" he asked. Dream studied him, the vulnerability was obvious and he hated it. He had taught and trained Sapnap better than this.
He was tough, powerful, and a warrior. He wasn't this emotional wreck in front of him. He could not understand the reasoning as to why he should sacrifice the safety and ego of his people.
Dream could let L'Manberg burn without hesitation or a care in the world. But then, he felt it. The hand on his shoulder made him turn in the other direction.
There stood the eldest of them, the mushroom hat shielding him from now being covered by the smoke sun. With one look from the brunette, Dream's shoulders sagged.
"There's nothing to lose." George said. Dream gulped and his jaw clenched, was there nothing to lose? Except for his ego that is.
"Do it for Sapnap. Do something good for best friend for once."
