I just got off the phone with my baby sister Nadia telling me our mother died earlier this morning. She has lost her battle to breast cancer. She told my other sister Christina she didn't want anymore treatments, thank the Lord she went in peace. Our mother raised us by herself
She was a surgical surgeon the best in her field
I'm looking at the pictures of all of us on her mantle piece
Mom was only fifty nine years old. The corner just left with her body, it was just yesterday we went out to dinner
I'm dreading the phone call to my big sister Lena who lives all the way in Hillsborough California. She left home at sixteen years old, nobody's seen her since after she came out to our family as gay. Of course that didn't sit to well with my mother Elizabeth, cause we were a Christian household. I married a pastor and Nadia was engaged
I'm told my sister has two children and she's married to a woman. Lena and I were extremely close, l was the first person she told. I gave her my word l wouldn't tell mom
Her wife is a district attorney, Lena followed in our mother's footsteps in becoming a pediatrician
I dialed Lena's number quickly the phone begins ringing
The woman on the phone never told me her name

Christine : hello can l speak with Lena please

The Foster residence: may I asked who's calling

Christine: let her know it's her sister from Savannah Georgia. Christina said

The Foster residence
I'm sorry she's not here at the moment is there's a message.

Christine:
I hate to deliver bad news over the phone like this
Can you let her know our mother passed away early this morning Christina Stated. And the funeral is scheduled for Saturday morning at new Hope Baptist Church Christine States.

The Foster residence: l'm sorry for your loss but l'll make sure to give her the message as soon as she gets in from work Stef responds.

Christine: thank you Christine said and hung up the phone.
