Brietta's POV

I hear another knock on the door to my apartment so I go to open it. It's Salvatore.
Just who I was expecting.

"You're late." I tell him

"I know and I'm sorry cara sorella."
Salvatore says genuinely

"I'm sorry I've not studied up on my Italian recently. What did you just call me?" I ask curiously

"It means dear sister."
Salvatore answers with a smile

"Well that's sweet. How do you say dear brother in Italian?" I question

"caro fratello" Salvatore says effortlessly with another smile, stupid Italians and their charm

Wait. I'm Italian. Let me try. Surely I can have the same effect.

"Shall we be on our way caro fratello?" I ask executing the Italian perfectly, with my own smile

"Yes we shall." Salvatore replies giving me his arm,
I take it and lock the door behind me.

"Padre isn't going to know how to handle you I'm afraid." Salvatore says with a light laugh

"What do you mean?" I question

"He likes to know how to handle every person he comes in contact with to some extent. It's how he stays so calm, and he's good with people so more times then not he's able too. However you cara sorella, might just give him a run for his money."
Salvatore explains

"I'm deciding to take that as a compliment."
I tell him

"It's the highest form. I admire the certain wild spark you have in your eyes, none of us ever know what you're thinking.. and a great poker face plays well in this world." Salvatore says

"Good to know." I reply

We get in the car before us and the driver, drives off.
Leaving me alone in my thoughts about what tonight might entail.

We get out of the car, and start walking up to the gala. Only it seems everyone is already here.

"We're late. Aren't we?" I question

Salvatore nods and says "Yes, I'm afraid. Padre will have my head no doubt for all of us not being escorted in together as a family."

"We're just fashionably late, and everyone else is boring and early." I tell him jokingly

Salvatore laughs and offers me his arm.
I take his arm and he starts leading us up the stairs, and through the entrance hall.

"It's gorgeous here." I say quietly

"Yes Mr. and Mrs. Monroe have a lovely home. Probably one of the biggest estates in New York, it's worth a millions." Salvatore explains

"Monroe?" I question

"Yes. Mafia associates. The Monroe's have been the only people to associate with each mafia, the relationships have gone back decades. Their family hold a gala each year, for business reasons. No weapons are allowed for safety. " Salvatore explains
