It's like the world has stood still.

As soon as I heard those words coming out of him, my life flashed before my eyes as if I was dying.

Before, I thought somehow I was being punished by being withheld from finding my mate. Now, I'm thinking I was being spared the humiliation of being rejected by a rogue.

Out of all the boys I could be mated to, hundreds of them, why did it have to be a damn rogue?

I understand I wasn't supposed to be the next Alpha, so he wasn't chosen for his Luna material. But seriously... a rogue?

I bawled in never ending tears, left near the river by my mate like trash he discarded. It took me a while to stop crying and getting up to leave.

I'm glad I wasn't alone, Lex and Lisa helped me out. They were so tender and respectful, a blessing in this dark time.

When I got home, late for dinner, my parents demanded an explanation. But as soon as they saw my face, they knew something was off.

I was completely wrecked, not even worth denying it.

"He rejected me!" - I cried out, worrying them and my sister, who's by their side in the dining room.

"Who?" - Dad asked me, frowning in concern for me.

"My mate. Who else?" - I replied in a 'duh' tone.

"You found your mate? Who is it?" - Mom asked me, as intrigued as she looked worried.

"I should've known. It was so obvious, staring right in my face this whole time." - I said, revolted at the terrible situation.

"Know what? Who's your mate?" - Dad asked me, troubled.

"Who would be out in the woods? Who could possibly be in danger of being attacked out in the jungle?" - I spoke, reminiscing of my constant nightmares.

"I don't know. Who? You're scaring us, Ben." - Dad replied clearly frightened by my cryptic rumbling.

"Dad, who would be attacked by pack wolves in the woods?" - I pondered, looking at him expectantly.

"I don't know... Rogues?" - He replied, trying to make sense of this charade.

"Exactly!" - I confirmed. An eureka moment happened right before my eyes as my family realizes what I'm on about.

"Wait, your mate is a rogue? You're joking?!" - Sasha is baffled at the revelation.

Both my parents are utterly gobsmacked at the news. Their mouths are agape, just like my sister's.

"Which one?" - Sasha asked, sounding excited.

"The omega, of course." - Mom beat me to the punch, her eyes flitted from me to my sister.

"Yes, him. He said he doesn't want me as his mate." - I stated, sounding defeated.

"I'm sorry, son. For everything. I'm sure he'll come around." - Dad said in his serene tone.

I stepped outside to wash my hands and returned to have dinner as I'm beyond starving by now.

I swallowed my pork chops and mashed potatoes with hunger while my family processed the bomb I just dropped on them.

"Why would you be mated to a rogue?" - Sasha wondered, intrigued.

"Tell me about it! I have no idea whatsoever." - I replied, as puzzled as her.

"Well, at least now we know and can stop the hunt for your mate. All this time he was right here in our backyard." - Dad commented in a joking tone.
