The early morning mist dragged coarsely through the aisles of decrepit pine trees, the indistinct tone of natures wakening carried in the harmony of birds and wind that swept through the knots of my hair.

I hadn't yet the chance to freshen up this morning, starting my day off outside in the chilly breeze, hands clasped around the ridge of a bow and arrow. A cabin this far out in the fields right beside the woods meant that the previous owner could not make a trip into town every time they needed food, meaning they likely had to occasionally hunt.

Sasha, Mikasa, Levi, and I all woke early to search the place for hunting supplies- And luckily we came across two bows stashed in the shed.

Hange and the others were still sleeping in.

Sasha had dragged the people she thought would be the best options for a hunting expedition out of bed, and that very unfortunately included me.
I couldn't stop yawning. It's been so long since I had to get up this early.

"Ms. [Y/N]," Sasha sounded from behind me. I turned to her, listening closely to what she had to say.
"Have you ever gone hunting before?" She asked, hands tucked in the pockets of her faded pink skirt that fell just below her ankles.

I shook my head. "No, but I've used a bow a fair amount of times in my life. All I need to know is how to track things down."

Sasha nodded. "Easy enough," She folded her arms, as if to impersonate a person of high status. She was very obviously enjoying the opportunity to be able to order everyone around, imitating the tone of someone with authority. I was entertained by her entertainment, glad to see that she was as energetic as ever.

"What about you, Captain?" She turned her questions onto Levi, who stood lazily behind us all, looking more exhausted than ever before. The dark circles under his eyes were especially prominent today, his black hair ruffled, a strand of his fringe falling and landing between his finely sculpted brows. His shoulders were slumped, like he could barely hold himself upright.

He groaned.

"I'm only accustomed to blades. Bows aren't my thing," He replied grumpily, blinking sleep from his drowsy eyes. "I don't think I'll be much help when it comes to hunting."

Sasha huffed, unfolding her arms and sliding her hands down, resting them sassily on her hips. "That's why I'm teaching you!" She pivoted to the left and snatched the bow that Mikasa, who stood half-asleep beside her, held.

Without any hesitation, she diligently drew back the thick bowstring, her index finger extending outwards as a pointer for where she aimed, narrowed her amber eyes, and then released it efficiently to demonstrate the technique. There was no arrow to release, but the swift expression of skill was enough for me to to acknowledge her effort to receive our full attention.

She handed the bow back to Mikasa.

"You guys're the best at payin' a close eye to small details, which is why I chose you guys ta' hunt with me," Sasha explained, eyes swapping between everyone who stood around. Her country accent became more evident the more she got riled up.

Mikasa sighed, but did not speak, lifting a hand off the bow she held to rub her eye. I also sighed, echoing Mikasa's tiredness.

Levi stepped forward. "Alright then," He chimed dully. "What do we need to do?"

Sasha gestured for us to follow her down the dirt trail that cut straight into the heart of the decayed forest. Her shoes scuffed up the gravel as she began walking.

"It's easier to explain everything as we do it," She said, all three of us trailing after her. A morning dove cooed in a disgruntled tree overhead, the volumous sound pouring down the crooked branches and wrapping around us as we passed by.
