Chapter 33: The Consequence Of Jealousy

The yawn I exhaled upon entering the Charms classroom was loud enough to cover my eyes for a moment and distract my view. It was early morning and the adjustment of settling back into the second term of sixth year felt like a challenge.

Then my sight cleared. It cleared well enough to spot the differences in the new sitting arrangements.

Professor Ronen wasn't strict on seating. No professor held a seating arrangement (Maybe, Weasley at some point), but somehow things felt odd.

"Uh, Poppy," I barely managed to say, furrowing my brows and staring at the empty spaces. "What are you..."

Poppy sat comfortably in my previous seat. It only left the space on where she sat — where she'll be the wall barrier between Sallow and I.

Now, there was no wall. I was the wall.

The classroom was still empty. Considering it was the first day after pulling late sleep, many were late, but even then, it wasn't enough to hide away my blush from the seats.

"Oh, Elle. Come on," Poppy tapped on the bench beside her, motioning the space that was once her's. "You'll thank me."

Hesitation over Poppy Sweeting seemed like a rough task already. Attempting to fight her over a seat was ridiculous.

It just made sense why she'll do that.

Maybe, it was her revenge for not letting her know about Sebastian and I's secret closeness now.

"Woo-hoo, Weasley's back!" An obnoxious whistle blew out behind, and I flinched, watching a familiar red-head pass us. "Missed me, girls?"

I rolled my eyes, watching as Poppy shyly tucked a strand of her short hair behind her ear at Garreth's tease and sighed, placing the books on the table, sitting down.

"Honestly, the school was quite peaceful without your presence, Garreth," Ominis murmured a seat away.

His blonde hair was a clear view from the corner of my eyes. The little gap between was supposed to be Sebastian, in which he hadn't been around, yet — I don't think anyone was surprised over it.

Our last encounter was before the weekend, finding ourselves in the kitchens after a library escapade. It was fun. Somehow, we managed to keep our hands to ourselves.

Somehow.

Now though, it felt weird as a weekend passed without him. Not that I hadn't felt a sort of emptiness without him around, but the feeling was more consistent now.

"Well, well, seems like a few have forgotten to keep their eyes open on the first day again,"

Ronen reached over the opposite side of the classroom, slapping his wand over Everett's desk, waking the Ravenclaw from the snooze he took all morning before class. Duncan followed along, his glasses nearly falling.

"I am hopeful you've all taken this break to practice the charms directed for this season's—"

Over the professor's words, a tall figure peeked through the classroom's arched entrance. The wooden door was still wide open for late students, but he attempted to be unnoticed from the way he slid his back over the walls of the class, hiding away the tardiness.

Idiot.

I flushed though.

Unlike the chaotic mess of the first day of school last season, this time Sebastian looked composed.
