Chapter 46: The Masquerade Ball
"We were just kids when we fell inlove. Not knowing what it was."
Noelle's Perspective
I could hear my breath vibrate over my ears with each second that passed by and I'd been afraid of making any slight movement as Garlick's strawberry-scented hands fused over my face.
It might've been the scent keeping me well-put, pretending as if in a few minutes I'd be off the castle halls and down the decorated stairs.
"And," My eyes flinched a little feeling a flick over my eyes as Garlick's voice echoed. "...that should enchant it well." She stepped back, clapping her hands together and looking proudly at her work.
Perhaps, she might've been looking at me, but it was the mask.
My dress flowed over the high stool, legs dangling awkwardly as I looked at my Gryffindor friends who surrounded me last minute inside the Herbology classroom.
All their eyes watched me, and anxiously, my eyes peeked through the mask and eyed them back. "Well?"
Natty and Nellie stared at each other, giving a smile from the work, but I could tell their excitement came from the ball waiting downstairs.
"Oh, it looks lovely, Noelle." Natty complimented. "If I had known Professor Garlick was helping out with the masquerade masks, I would've chosen her instead of the Hogsmeade shop!"
"Yeah, same." Nellie adjusted her red mask, also feeling regretful that they didn't take the route I did for the preparation.
"Come on, ladies. Lift up your spirits. This is once in a lifetime," Garlick lifted her hands in a motion, "Enjoy it no matter what! And Elle," she pressed her white hands together again and smiled at me. "Thank you for allowing me to help."
I smiled.
It wasn't difficult to pick and choose when it came to events. There had been multiple days where only the girls were allowed in Hogsmeade to shop for their attire and another day where it was the boys. Hogwarts stood by their rules to make everyone comfortable.
I hadn't been fond of the mask choices at Hogsmeade. I'll watch as my friends chose them easily, but something in my gut told me that I shouldn't have picked something I didn't have a desire to wear, so I turned to Professor Garlick.
It had been out of the blue. She offered, and I didn't decline. Apparently, during her summer breaks, she'd work in a small shop in Upper Hogsfield creating clothing and such. This was exciting for her.
