"I DON'T UNDERSTAND why you won't tell me where you went!"

Belle couldn't help but chuckle at the impertinence of Benedict's question as he followed her in an intense pursuit as they descended the stairs of the Bridgerton house, moving from the library towards the drawing room where the rest of their families had gathered.

"Goodness, Mr Bridgerton, you are like a dog with a bone." She chastised him with a small smirk, "Could you honestly not find anything else to distract yourself with or was my absence truly as agonising as you make it seem?"

The man let out a light scoff at her query as they arrived at the bottom of the stairs.

"On the contrary, I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at the club." He replied, wearing a smug smirk of his own. "Made all the merrier by the lack of your ceaseless prattle."

Belle narrowed her eyes playfully at him as they halted momentarily ahead of entering the drawing room.

"Well then I am glad as I too had a very pleasant night without your company."

Benedict let out a small tut before he pursed his lips in thought, surveying her smug expression.

"I will find out."

"Alas, you shan't."

Although the evening she'd had with the Granvilles had been rather scandalous in nature, she rather enjoyed allowing Benedict's mind to run awry in imagining just what mischief she might have got into. Additionally, seeing the apparent agony he was in at her withholding the information only came with its own amusement.

On the night of the party, she had successfully concealed her identity - at least to the best of her knowledge, no rumour had reached her ears nor graced the pages of Whistledown, for which she had been exceedingly thankful.
