CHAPTER 3 - Late Night Call

MARIA YVETTE AMYLASE D. DEL FIERRO

IT'S ALREADY weekend! Finally! After a LOOONG day of exams and recitations, idagdag mo pa 'yong mga happenings between me and Jerrich. But now, I'm good! Hindi pwedeng mag-stay sa past, because we can't get ahead to our future if we're still holding onto our past. 'Di ba?

As usual, I did my weekend routine. Naglinis ng buong bahay, doing all household chores dahil wala namang ibang gagawa nito kun'di ako. Hirap maging only child because all the responsibilities and pressures ay nasa 'yo, but on the other hand, masaya din naman 'wag mo lang isipin ang mga negative sides of being an only child. After I did all of those, nag-ready na ako sa sarili ko para pumunta ng bakery. Every weekend nandoon ako to help Mama, 'cause Papa is busy delivering orders and sa isang branch namin sa Laoag. Nilakad ko lang from our house papunta sa bakery, exercise na rin.

Nang makarating ako sa bakery ay nakapila na ang mga tao para bumili ng tinapay, every morning pandesal ang laging nauubos, obviously. Dali-dali naman akong pumasok para matulungan na si Mama, 'cause I know she has a lot to do pa sa kusina.

"Ma, ako na riyan." I said, tinanguan lang ako ni Mama at pumunta na agad siya ng kusina.

I've been so busy from 6:30 AM, the time na ako ang nagbibenta sa customers hanggang mga 9:30 AM. Nakapagpahinga lang ako nang kumukunti na lang iyong mga bumibili since medyo tanghali na rin.

"Nak, kape ka muna" Mama handed me a mug with hot coffee inside.

"Thanks, Ma." I took the mug and sip.

"Kumusta school?" she asked. Medyo matagal na rin bago kami nakapagusap ng ganito. Everytime kasi umuuwi ako gabi na, and then sila Mama gano'n din. It's either matutulog na sila agad after dinner or manonood sila ng TV sa sala, and ako naman diretso sa kwarto ko to study. In short, we only have weekends para makapag-bonding.

"Ayos lang, nakakapagod pero kaya naman po." I answered. She sat down beside me and took a sip on her cup of coffee.

"Graduating ka na pala, ano? Grabe ang bilis ng panahon, 'nak. Soon magiging lawyer ka na." my Mama said, she's smiling and her smile is contagious. I just found myself also smiling. She's right, magiging lawyer na ako and soon attorney na.

"And it will not be possible if it wasn't for you and Papa's hard work. Kaya I am so grateful to you, Ma."  Mama just stare at me and looks away.

Me and Mama aren't that showy towards how we feel for each other, nahihiya nga ako magsabi ng 'I love you' sa kaniya, even to Papa. But to show and let the person know that we love them, we have our different love languages. Mama's love language is act of service. Everytime that Me and Mama or Mama and Papa have misunderstanding, and Mama knows that it was her fault, hindi siya magsasabi ng 'sorry' instead paglulutuan ka niya ng paborito mo tapos ihahatid sa kwarto mo. While Papa's love language is words of affirmation and quality time. He's the one who often says 'I love you' to me and to Mama. Lastly is me, just like Mama my love language is also act of service. Nakakatuwa kasi kapag pinagsisilbihan mo iyong taong mahal mo, and also it is the easiest way to say 'thank you' , 'sorry' , or 'I love you' to someone. Isa pang love language ko is quality time, and I'm a busy person. But I always take time to be with my loved ones, kahit pagod ako. Ang saya lang kapag you'll experience all of those, iyong ikaw naman ang pinagsisilbihan, binibigyan ng oras at sinasabihan ng 'I love you' by the person you love.
