  They threw his body in the river putting around his neck a 75 pound cotton Gin fan, and after they threw his body in the water, they burned his clothes , and even tried burning his shoes .

They later confessed to LOOK magazine that they admitted to killing him, and they were paid 4,000 dollars to confess and admit to killing him. They were acquitted, and let free.
But they were in fact charged for the kidnapping of Emmett Till and later arrested.

Emmett Till's brutally beaten body was then put on display all over the media, newspapers, and even televisions.
