After the confessing of the murder of Emmett Till , JW Milam was unable to rent land, and was also refused a loan due to the murder of Emmett Till.
The Milams' moved to Texas for several years and then moved back to Mississippi
(Greenville) in 1965.
According to Author Devery S . Anderson , in his website article on JW Milam it quotes;
"She and JW Milam were said to have later divorced, but he is listed as married to Juanita in his obituary and there is no divorce record for them in Greenville or Washington county."
JW Milam worked heavy equipment as a job before his retirement .
In 1980, JW Milam died of cancer leaving his wife Juanita Milam Widowed .
