The evening sun gleamed over the elegant Donnelley residence before me, where one of the most richest families in town lived. A beautiful big white mansion that resembled the White House, it appeared to be. My heart pounded vigorously in my chest as we stood outside of Audrey's family home, waiting for me to meet her parents for the very first time. My nerves were on a high as I adjusted my tie, I was dressed in my most modest of clothes I could find, although it didn't seem to be much. My hair was slicked back with some hair grease, I also borrowed a bit of Audrey's makeup to cover up my still bruised eye. I wondered what her parents would think of me when they've seen me. My hands shook slightly, this was the moment I'd been dreading. Audrey sensing my anxiety, reached out to grasp my trembling hand to comfort my worries with a reassuring smile. Yet, despite her reassurance I couldn't shake the feelings I felt inside.

As I reached out with the other hand and ranged the doorbell, I could hear footsteps approaching. I couldn't help but to swallow the surrounding tense air nervously.

As the door opened, revealed was a stern-looking man who appeared to be in his fifties, with dark gray hair and a thick mustache.

"Hello, sir. I'm Heath, Audrey's boyfriend," I spoke as I extended my hand out politely.

The man looked at me, up and down with a cold glare, then reluctantly shook my hand before saying, "I'm Robert Donnelley, Audrey's father. Come in," he said, turning to then walk back into the mansion.

As we followed him down the long hallway that exuded in elegance, I felt Audrey caress my knuckles lightly.

"Just take a deep breath, everything will be fine. My father can be intimidating, but just remember to be yourself," she whispered.

As we entered the elegant grand dining hall, the scent of an extravagant dinner that awaited us filled the air. I couldn't help but to be impressed by the scenery. Adorned by the crystal chandeliers that hung from the ceiling and the fine china glasses that were set at the dinner table along with some floral arrangements. There was also a fireplace upon the wall with a woman standing by it, holding a glass of what appeared to be wine. She looked elegant, wearing a red dress. She looked like an older version of Audrey, but with blonde hair and a colder expression.

"Heath, this is my mother-," Audrey began.

"Elizabeth Donnelley," the woman interjected.

I nodded politely at the woman, who gave me a faint smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"Nice to meet you, Heath," she said in a tense tone.

"Likewise, ma'am," I said.

"Well, why don't we all sit down for dinner," Mr. Donnelley said, before leading us to the dinner table.
