Chapter 5: Good Neighbor

If it weren't for work, Max wouldn't even let Selena go that day. It's so unusual for him to feel this type of attraction.

Not only to Max but also with Selena
It was weird for her to feel so much with their kiss.

She never have felt this. She thought she'd never be with any man ever again after what had happened in the past

But there she was getting drunk with his kisses, his touch and his warmth

"Max.." she whispers as she gently pushes him
He looks at her and places his head on her shoulder
"You sure you don't want to come with me?" He whispers onto her ear also trying to catch his breath
"I have work I can't leave the store"
"Other time then?" He looks at her with his hands on her cheeks
Selena smiles a little and nods, he kisses her cheek and lets her go

"I'll be back soon. Let's go out" Max says as he walks back to his car
"Good luck" Selena says as she waves him goodbye

His car drives off and she walks up the stairs to her apartment

She was about to open her apartment when she hears footsteps
"Callum?"
"Selena!"
He waves hello as he walks towards her
"When did you come back?"
"Just now"

Just now? This ringed to Selena's ears. He couldn't possibly saw them right? Wrong.

"So... I saw Max's car earlier"
"Max?" Trying to pretend she didn't know
"Verstappen"
"Oh" still acting like nothing happened as she tries to open her door
"I don't remember anyone in the apartment being single" Callum teases as he hints to her
"Are you two?"
"No" Selena rushes to go inside and closes the door

Yes. Callum Ilott is her floor mate. They've been neighbors for quite some time now that's why they are actually pretty close.

Selena plops on to her bed after taking a nice shower. It was a tiring day from the bakeshop down to the little make out session outside

*knockknockknock*

"Ena? Are you still awake?" She hears Callum, he must've ordered something for dinner
"Yeah just a minute" she opens the door and there he was holding what seems to be asian food
"Are those spring rolls?"
"Yes"
"Fried?"
"Yes!"

Callum goes inside, preparing the food on her table.

They often do this. Buy food and eat together. Callum is also a racer so he isn't here most times. She's been accustomed to this routine that it doesn't even faze her anymore.

"So.. Max Verstappen is your type?" Callum teases but Selena almost chokes on her food
"He's aggressive no?" He says as he hands her water
"Kinda..."
"So how'd you two?"
"We're not—"
"No really how?"
"We met at the club then we kinda hooked up"
"No way! Hooked up?? But isn't he known to be—"
"A player? Yeah..." She sighs. For a moment there she forgot. He couldn't possibly serious about her.

"Do you like him?"
"Hmm.. I don't know"
"But you spent the night with him. How?? I thought you still couldn't??"
"I'm not sure Callum... It felt different... like really different"
"I'm gonna be happy for you if you got over it but with regards to Max... I think you should be careful" He says worried for her heart
"He... asked me out"
"With just one day of knowing each other?"
"I know it's out of this world. I don't know why I even said yes"
"YOU SAID YES??!" Callum's eyes widened.

This wasn't the Selena he knew. This was way too much. What did Max do, he wondered. Did she actually fell inlove at first sight??

Selena sighs. "You think it's crazy too right"
"It is! He can't possibly be serious"
"He said he was but I'm not sure"
"I mean regardless of what he says, why are you even entertaining this idea?" Callum is beyond baffled. Borderline annoyed too.

It's one thing to have them both fool around together but it's a whole different story if Selena is sincere about it

"Don't tell me you're gonna go through this??" He suddenly becomes serious
"I'm curious..."
"Don't you know curiosity killed the cat??"

Selena frowns Callum was kinda raising his tone. He has never done that not even once. He has always been the very essence of a true gentleman so why was he agitated

"I'm sorry! But I am curious why it feels so natural? It wasn't forced. I wasn't scared even one bit"
"Exactly why you should be cautious Ena! He's that experienced!"
"Maybe I just need to go through this whole ordeal to know that!"
"Ena please. I don't want you to get hurt again!"
"Maybe he will, maybe he won't but... we won't know unless I try... I have to try Callum"

He sighs as he shakes his head. Callum stands up and says "If you really think he's worth the try, then go ahead. Don't whine to me later that I didn't warn you about him" he shuts her door with the smallest force.

Though as upsetting as this is, he still hoped Selena wouldn't continue this uncertain relationship with Max

When the door closed, Selena was left feeling confused and somewhat sad that her good friend, her good neighbor, told her once more what she already fears the most
