The fold gloomed over the fort, harshly dividing it in two. The crows introduced themselves to the remaining army of Nikolai Lantsov. One of them was Tamar, Tolya's sister, and the other two Grisha introduced themselves as Nadia and Adrik.
'The Fold should have fallen by now.' Nikolai said as he limped in front of the others.
Sabo watched him intently before her attention shifted to the fallen soldiers on the field.
Where were Shana and Lorelai?
'Who is with Alina?' Sabo asked.
'I don't know for sure, but the last time I saw her, she was together with Mal and two women named Lorelai and Shana.'
And Nina, Zoya, and Inej were going to them. Sabo swallowed thickly as she shared a quick look with Kaz.
'Did you find the Firebird?' Tolya asked his sister.
Tamar raised her eyebrow at him as she sighed. 'Long story, it's Mal.' she replied.
'I'm sorry, did you say Mal is a bird?' Jesper asked.
'New addition to the crows.' Wylan snorted as he held his backpack to his chest.
'Still no sign of Kirigan.' Nikolai said as they looked around the fort.
'Don't jinx it.' Sabo warned as her hand rested on the holster of her knife. They approached the entrance to the fold in one of the passageways.
'We go in, we find Alina.' Nikolai said determined as he looked at the fold in front of them.
Kaz walked over to Nikolai and held up his cane. 'Here.' he said before he looked at the fold.
'Don't you need it?' Nikolai asked confused.
'I've got more experience with pain.' Kaz replied.
Nikolai took Kaz's cane and nodded at him.
There was a gush of wind. 'There you guys are.'
Jesper grabbed his gun as Tolya and Tamar grabbed their blades. They turned around. In front of them stood a woman.
Bronze skin, black hair, and brown eyes.
In response to their reactions, the woman held up her knife. The purple ring she wore reflected the little sunlight that still shined upon them.
'Everyone lower your weapons.' Nikolai said shushing. 'This is-'
'Shana!' Sabo greeted as she ran towards her. Shana lowered her knife as she and Sabo hugged.
'Does she just happen to know everybody?' Nikolai asked Kaz.
Kaz just shrugged.
'I thought you were with Alina?' Nikolai asked Shana.
'I came to tell you that Alina, Mal, and Lorelai are heading into the fold, they weren't hurt by Kirigan's army.' Shana replied as she let go of Sabo.
'Then we'll go and find them.' Jesper said as he holstered his guns. Jesper and Sabo shared a quick look before he and the others walked into the fold.
'So, these are your friends from Ketterdam?' Shana asked as she watched the people in front of her move into the fold.
'Some of them.' Sabo said as she observed Shana. She and Inej weren't very similar, but they certainly held some traits.
