diamontè sat silently in the dimly lit living room, watching soleia sleep peacefully on the cozy couch. the young girl was wrapped up in layers of soft, warm blankets, and her chest rose and fell rhythmically with each breath she took. diamontè's gaze wandered to soleia's right arm, where a large, dark bruise covered most of her skin. the sight made her heart ache with worry and concern.

suddenly, diamontè heard the sound of soleia wincing in pain as she shifted her position in her sleep. concerned, diamontè walked towards soleia's sleeping figure and gently lifted the blanket and oversized shirt she was wearing. as she looked down, she noticed soleia's ribs were bruised and she gently pressed against them, causing soleia to tense and wince in her sleep. damontè realized that soleia must have been in pain and vowed to find out what had happened to her.

the sound of someone banging on the door caused diamontè to sit up and move towards the door. before answering, she made sure to cover soleia's entire body with a blanket and pillows. curious, she checked the ring camera to see who was knocking.

when she looked into the camera, she saw jeremiah, she didn't understand why would he be knocking on her door when he and soleia had broken when she found out that he was cheating on her.

when she looked into the camera, she saw jeremiah. she didn't understand why he would be knocking on her door, especially since he and soleia had broken up when she found out he was cheating on her.

diamontè carefully opened the door, only enough to see jeremiah's face and not the whole house. "what do you want, jeremiah?" she asked with an attitude in her voice.

"is soleia here?" jeremiah asked diamontè, sniffing his nose.

"how would I know if she's here?" diamontè questioned, pretending to be clueless. "we haven't talked to each other in years," she reminded jeremiah.

as diamontè took on jeremiah's appearance, she couldn't help but notice that he appeared to be high. as he looked around, she saw the telltale signs of drug use - the white powder around his nose and the constant sniffles. it was clear that he was not in a sober state of mind.

as jeremiah walked away from diamontè's door, she watched him carefully until he drove off. only then did she shut and lock the door, making sure to set the alarm around the house for added security.

when diamontè turned around, she found her cousin soleia sitting on the couch with a scared look on her face. her chest was moving rapidly as she tried to catch her breath. diamontè quickly rushed to her side.

"jae what's wrong?" diamontè asked her cousin in a worried tone. as diamontè touched her, soleia jumped from her touch she stumbled off the couch in a panic and she ran her hands off her face.

"i need to go, dia. i can't be here anymore," soleia said to diamontè. she was scared that jeremiah would come back and hurt her cousin, and she didn't want to risk being caught in the middle of their conflict. soleia knew that her safety was a priority, and she needed to remove herself from the situation before it escalated any further.

"soleia what are you talking about, you don't have your car." diamontè asked.

in a panic voice, soleia frantically said, "i can order an Uber to bring me back to the dorm. i just need to go before something happens." her words were rushed and stumbled over as she feared the worst and desperately tried to find a way out of the dangerous situation.

soleia's movements were frantic as she rushed around the house, her mind in a state of panic. she quickly grabbed her belongings and put on the same clothes she had worn the day before. as she walked back into the room, she snatched her phone off the dresser and tucked it into her pocket. in a rush, she removed the bonnet from her head and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. she splashed water on her face and brushed her teeth before heading out the door in a hurry.

diamontè followed behind her cousin with her shoes on her feet and her bonnet still on her head, her phone and keys in her hands. soleia walked towards the door as diamontè called out her name, trying to catch up. "jae...jae, wait, hold on." She let out a soft sigh as she debated her options. "i'll can bring you to your dorm room, alright?"

soleia nodded her head slightly as she opened the door, she walked toward her cousin's car as she waited for her to lock her house door. she wiped away the tears that were falling down her hazel eyes, she took a deep breath

hearing the sound of her cousin unlocking her car, soleia opened the car,, she gently lifted herself into the car and seat of n the passenger seat. as diamontè got into the car, she couldn't help but notice soleia's trembling hands and legs as she leaned against the window.

diamontè started the car and began reversing out of the driveway. as she drove towards the street.

as diamontè's car pulled into the parking lot of the university, she shut the car off and turned to soleia who was about to open the car door. she stopped her and firmly asked, "aht aht, are you going to explain to me what happened earlier, soleia?" diamontè's tone was sharp and serious, indicating that she was not going to let soleia off the hook easily. soleia took a deep breath before launching into her explanation, feeling a sense of guilt and anxiety wash over her.

"dia, I don't tell you everything," soleia said with a tight-lipped smile. "besides,i'm not really comfortable sharing what's going on with me right now. maybe later." she looked at her cousin, hoping she would drop the subject.

diamontè raised her hands up, "alright but if anything is wrong with you, you will tell me right?" diamontè said as she grabbed her cousin's hand and squeezed it, looking at her with concern.

"of course," replied diamontè's cousin, returning the squeeze. "but i promise i'll be fine. you don't need to worry about me." diamontè nodded, still looking worried, but trusting her cousin's words.

as soleia exited the car and began walking towards her dorm room, she felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her. she fumbled with the key in the lock before finally unlocking the door and stepping inside. the room was just as she left it, with her books scattered on the desk and her bed unmade. she let out a sigh and sat onto the bed.

after a couple of hours, she finally gave up and decided to get some rest. slowly, her hazel eyes fluttered and within a second, she was asleep.
