Sylvia

I was on the verge of tears again after I had stopped, I have come to terms with his betrayal but it still hurts because I fail to understand why he would do this, I am a prisoner in my own home, I have to ask for permission in whatever I try to do else she would be mad, my only consolation was that my children were with me, living with them and watching them make fun of me for the past two weeks has not been pleasant, they would look for opportunities to taunt me, but I was most hurt when Khalid did the taunting, it hurts me when I look into his eyes and I see hatred and disgust, why did he hate me, I ask, why does he feel disgusted by me? Did he always feel disgusted when we were together, most times I put the blame on Sandra assuring myself that she brainwashed him, even though I could see that they were his personal actions,

I could not take all this hurt, the belittling and bullying, so I planned to run, I would get as far away as possible from this wicked people, my children would never grow up in this hostile environment,

I carried my daughter Laura on my back, using a clothe to tie her to my body, then I packed, some clothes in case my children needed a change, I sneaked into the kitchen and took some food and water, zipping up the bag, I carried Damien in my hands and sneaked out through the back door, there was some security people around, people that I had trusted to protect me and my family, now they had turned against me restricting me from going out, they had been forbidden to let me out,

I wouldn't even think of going through the front gate or back gate, which was security tight, so I planned to scale the fence, over a weak spot that was lowered, where they were less barbed wires and less security,

I picked up two rocks and placed them carefully, when I stood on both rocks and looked to the other side, the place was really grassy, so I flung the bag first, then I picked up Damien, he seemed to understand the plan and he was smart for a three years old, quickly I made him sit on the fence as I climbed up, then when I landed, I quickly carried him down, I looked over my back, Laura was still sleeping peacefully, unaware, I held Damien's hand and picked up the bag, as we ran into the forest, I did not know where I was going, I just needed to leave that place as soon as possible, I needed to go somewhere safe, after running for what seemed like hours, I stopped to rest, We sat at the foot of a tree, I gave him water to drink, then I drank, he ate a little, we needed to start moving but, I knew my son was tired, so I let him sleep, I picked him up by my arm and continued the journey. Thankfully I saw a highway below the forest and climbed down, the road was scanty, I tried to wave down a car but none would stop, I guess they thought I was a mad woman, after walking for a while, it was getting late so I climbed back up towards the forest and sat under a tree near the highway, Damien was awake now, so I sat him down by the root of the tree and brought Laura down from my back, I knew they were hungry as I was, I was thankful they didn't cry, opening the bag, I brought out the plate of rice, gave it to Damien who started eating hungrily, I breastfed Laura as I ate a little, the food was getting sour, I hoped that by tomorrow, I would get good food,

After eating, I put some clothes on the floor and laid Damien, I carried Laura on my laps, covering them both with some clothes, as they both slept off again, I cried, I prayed for God to keep us safe, I prayed that we were not attacked by wild animals and not bitten by dangerous insects, I was in pains, my children would never suffer like this again, I promise, by tomorrow, we would get out of this town safely, I hope, I pray.

I couldn't sleep through out the night, I was too scared to close my eyes, I could not call anyone because I left my phone not wanting to be traced,

The next morning, I made him eat the little food left hoping that the spoilt food wouldn't affect him, I breastfed my baby, then strapped her to my back again, I carried my little boy in one arm and the bag over another as I climbed down towards the highway again hoping and praying that a vehicle would stop, It was getting late, I was exhausted and tired, I felt my body was weak, I had not eaten anything, My children were hungry as well as tired, I was about to give up, when a Lorry stopped by me,

"Need a ride to town?" A voice asked, when I looked through the window, it was a young man with a thick moustache and a bald head,

"Yes please" I said,

He opened the door and we got on, he began to drive

I kept praying in my mind that he was not dangerous, "please Lord, save us"

"My name is Roy" he said in a thick accent, looking back at the road,

"Mine is Pat, this is Mel and Suzy" I lied,

"Kay where are y'all coming from and where are you going"

I was silent, I didn't know what to say, should I answer him or not, he might be a dangerous person,

Before I could lie he said,

"The town is not so far now, my wife is waiting over there, I deliver tomatoes, are you hungry, do you want some?"he asked,

I nodded otherwise, even though I was starving,

We drove for sometime, until it got dark, I was scared out of my mind until I started seeing lights, we passed a bar, and a gas station, soon we drove into a bustling town, my excitement knew no bounds, I squealed while Roy Guffawed,

"Welcome to Lindly town, he said, we got down from the lorry, he walked to the back and started offloading baskets of Tomatoes, then he offered some to Damien, who also hesitated but I encouraged him to eat it,

The man did not seem that dangerous any longer, atleast he was kind enough to bring us into town,

"Thank you so much" I said to him,

"No no, need, you all look so nice, it was my pleasure"

I nodded,

"Do you know anyone here, or do you have a place to stay?" I nodded truthfully that we were completely alone,

"My wife would be here soon, and she wouldn't mind if you stay a night"

"Thank you so much" I said in appreciation,

The said wife later came around, her name was Susan and she instantly liked Laura because she thought they were namesake, Suzy,

She did not have a problem with us spending a night in their house, she was so nice and led us to the building, she helped arrange a room for us and I was so grateful, we were even given food, together with clothing and a room,

I kept thanking them, then we went to bed, I slept until late because I was thinking, what would I do tomorrow, definitely pay them, find a way to my town, this people are Godsent, I was happy, this was a ray of hope after a long time.
