Raine walked down the path toward the Owl House, the place they equally dreaded and dreamed about going inside.

"THEY'RE HERE!"

Raine startled as Hooty's voice assaulted their eardrums.

"Shhhhhhhhhhh." Luz's voice. "They can probably hear you."

"They can probably hear you!" King's voice. "Shush."

The three of them scrambled around when Raine came fully into view.

Luz stood up stick straight, a giant smile plastered on her face.

Hooty was facedown in the dirt while King crouched on all fours, his fur standing on end.

"Hey. How...are you..?" Raine asked.

"Oh great, just great! Now, gee, would you look at the time, let's move inside shall we? I heard it might start raining in a bit!"

Raine glanced up at the cloudless sky. "Uh-huh."

Luz grabbed their hand and tugged them inside and up the stairs.

"So...what do you have...planned for the day?" Raine questioned, their voice cracking.

"Ohhhh, not much, just a bit of fulfilling my matchmaker dreams!"

"Wai-what?"

"Nothing!" Luz sang.

They arrived at the door to Eda's bedroom.

King flew around the corner and skidded to a stop.

He tossed a pen with a sparkling gem on top into the room.

Eda shot through the hallway, snatching the pen out of midair and tumbling into the bedroom.

King laughed and shook his head. "Works every time."

Luz shoved Raine after Eda. "You guys have fun!"

"LUZ!"

"Byeeeee!"

Luz slammed the door shut and Raine heard it lock.

Then a metal door banged over the giant stained-glass window.

"Dang it Hooty!" They heard Eda screech.

She sighed. "He's put the house on lockdown, so we might be stuck here for a while."

Raine turned around.

Despite her calm voice, Eda was frantically shoving loose papers into a leather-bound notebook with "DIARY" stitched on the front.

She shoved the diary into the walls of her nest and turned towards Raine.

"Hello." They said.

"Hello." Eda responded, standing up. She was clutching the pen in her hand so hard her knuckles were turning white.

They fell silent.

Eda sat back down.

Raine perched on a stool.

They stayed this way for a very long time.

Eventually their silence was broken by Hooty's voice from behind the door.

"Why aren't they doing anything? Should I have done the Tunnel of Love again?"

"NO!" Luz almost shouted before quieting down.

Raine quietly thanked the Titan that they weren't in a Tunnel of Love.

There was more muttering.

"Got it!" Hooty had no inside voice.

Then the floor opened up.

They both screamed as the two of them were plummeted into the abyss.
