"Least get this kid to talk."

"Jesus Alex, this is a kid we're talking about here. Give him a rest at least."

"We should know at least if he's infected."

"How would he know anyway."

"Duh. We ask the doctor to test him."

"Whatever. Do your worst."

It was cold. Calvin felt a soft surface under him. He was sleeping. He didn't want to open his eyes, or move. He just wanted to stay like this forever. The nightmare that Calvin had forced him to wake up at a random hour but he fell asleep immediately after. He couldn't forget that nightmare and that day where he lost—

"Hello? You awake yet?"

Calvin's eyes widened as he stood up immediately in cold shock. He looked around in confusion. Not familiar with his surroundings. The room was dirty grey and only had two metal platforms for the bed. The mattress was a bit dirty but green could be seen. Hell. The windows had bars.

It looked almost like jail to him.

Calvin made eye contact with the person in front of him which was a middle aged man with black hair. He was wearing a mask, and holding something.

Calvin was intimidated by the man.

"I need you to cooperate with me okay?"

The man held up the glass in front of Calvin. Calvin was a bit confused.

"Spit on the dish."

Calvin spitted on the dish cautiously. He rubbed his eye in exhaustion. The doctor looked at him in pity. The doctor stared as he breathed in.

"Can you show me your arm?"

Calvin lifted his arm that had a bandage wrapped around the upper arm. He unwrapped the bandage wrap. The doctor inspected the scar.

"..You're infected."

"..What does that mean.?"

"Although you seem to show no symptoms of the virus, you're still infected. You're immune."

...

Calvin wasn't allowed to be out still. He tried arguing with them. They didn't budge. He knows he's on a safe zone but..he doesn't FEEL safe. He doesn't feel welcomed. He doesn't feel comfort. He doesn't feel like home.

He just wants to see Smoker again.

That nice man.

He died cause of him.

He hated himself.

He was too scared to do anything.

He felt like an idiot.

He doesn't even feel rescued here. Smoker was there to supervise him and look after him. That made Calvin felt safe. He silently sobbed.

Does he truly want to stay here.

Calvin shook his head.

"Maybe I just need to get used to this place.."

"I've only been here for..probably a day or less."

"I shouldn't be complaining."

"I-"

Calvin heard the door open. The doctor came back. Calvin attempted to hide under the blankets. Not wanting to see anybody. The man sighed as he just stared at the kid in pity.

"I understand kid."

"I know right now the world is scary out there. But there's people here to protect you."

Calvin stared blankly at him.

He should be grateful.

He's safe.

Right?

They're here to protect him.

Right?

What Calvin was thinking.

"I'm sorry for your loss by the way."

Calvin shivered. He didn't want to be reminded again. Of that time. He already lost enough. He thought again. Why didn't they save him. They could've helped him.

I know Mr was an zombie but

He was nice.

He didn't hurt me.

Why?

"Why didn't you save him."

"I'm sorry?"

"Why didn't you save Mr."

...

It was quiet.

"He was long gone."

"Liar.!"

"YOU'RE ONLY SAYING THAT CAUSE HE WAS A ZOMBIE—"

......

"..what.?"

Calvin just sat there.

"He didn't do anything to me I swear."

...

"I think you need to rest more kid."

"But-"

"Go to bed."
