Yeseul couldn't help but turn off the laptop once the video ended.
She couldn't watch anything anymore, not when she was feeling everything she was feeling that day when she first watched the film and learned that Niki felt the same way she did. Reminiscing back to those days no longer felt tolerable. Even something simple as a glance, she couldn't find the ability to spare one to him. But this, having to watch them back when they would never thought that in four years, the two of them would be sitting in a dark library, watching films they never thought they'd watch as separated individuals.
"Seul." Niki called out to her. "Seul, please look at me."
When she heard the subtle plead to his tone, she couldn't help but do as he said. And when their eyes met, she immediately regretted her decision because his eyes were a mirror of hers. They were glistening in sadness and longing. They both wanted to reach out for something they had already let go of four years ago. However, while one hesitated, the other was desperate.
"The reason I backed out when everything got too real for me, the reason why I was so scared of the future, was because I realized you weren't just a first love." Niki's eyes dug into her, scrutinizing her reaction, hoping to get something that could ignite hope. "I was starting to realize you were becoming my first love, my greatest love, and my true love. And if I lost you, I would be losing half my heart and will never be able to gain it back. So I broke your heart and only realized my mistake when I learned that you have already become my whole soul."
"I lied again, Seul." There was a sad smile to his face that instantly broke her heart. "I lied that I was here because I fell asleep and had just woken up. The truth is, I knew you haven't been resting well and that you have fallen asleep here in the library. I was watching over you but... I hadn't anticipated we'd be locked in here together."
"Several years later and I still notice you."
It was a lie again that served as a bridge for their fate to tether once more. But really was it only a lie that brought them to this situation now that she learned he had never stopped looking out for her? How funny is it that all this time she thought it had only been her who has been noticing him when really the same went for the other. While she ought to have a good laugh to it, there was an excruciating pain to her chest as he continued to stare at her the same way he always does when gazing upon her.
