Chapter 1

Have you ever wondered if your world and life are real?

Song Juyao once doubted why she lived her life this way and why it seemed like a failure. She questioned whether she wasn't working hard enough or if she was just too foolish. Instead of taking responsibility, she used to blame others, complained about God's injustice, and resented those who effortlessly obtained everything she desperately wanted, as luck never seemed to come her way.

She was born into an extremely poor family, a life unimaginable for most city dwellers. Their home was near a landfill, and her parents made a living by sorting and collecting waste from all over the city every day. It was a tough and dirty life, one she despised. So she worked hard to achieve a better life, setting goals for herself from a very young age and studying diligently to make her dreams a reality.

At just seven years old, she already realized the importance of money and the need to earn it. She tried various ways to make money, like running errands for adults, helping classmates with homework, cleaning for others, and even sweet-talking teachers to get money from them. Despite being ridiculed and looked down upon by her classmates for these actions, she didn't care because she knew these trivial judgments were insignificant compared to the pursuit of her dreams. She saved money and gazed enviously at the beautiful clothes in shop windows, dreaming of becoming successful one day.

Among her schoolmates, Wen Ruoning was the person she disliked the most. Wen Ruoning always pestered Song Juyao, criticizing her for helping others with their homework, claiming it led to bad grades for them. She pretended to care while offering used clothes to Song Juyao, insinuating that she knew of Song Juyao's poverty and lack of decent attire.

Although Song Juyao was close to breaking down because of Wen Ruoning, she held herself together and worked even harder to earn money and excel in her studies. She wanted to tell Wen Ruoning that she had no time for frivolities and was burdened with responsibilities at home. However, she refrained from speaking up because she knew Wen Ruoning would never understand.

Wen Ruoning came from a wealthy family, and she was oblivious to the struggles faced by others. Song Juyao thought they were from two different worlds that would never intersect. That notion changed in high school when Wen Ruoning's parents claimed Song Juyao as their lost daughter and Wen Ruoning's fraternal twin, admitting they had bought her from traffickers.

Confused and lost, Song Juyao's life plan was shattered. Meanwhile, she met Wei Qing, a wealthy, humorous, and handsome man at a party. She fell for him, and her life took a new direction. She changed her appearance and habits to please him, leading to a decline in her academic performance. The pressure to maintain appearances became overwhelming, and she gradually lost touch with her studies and books.

She believed her love with Wei Qing was real until she overheard Wen Ruoning begging him to continue dating her and not to hurt her. Song Juyao realized that Wei Qing's approach to her was influenced by Wen Ruoning from the beginning. It was all a façade, a false sense of charity from Wen Ruoning.

Furious and jealous, Song Juyao confronted Wen Ruoning with sarcastic remarks, but it backfired, making others view her as the troublemaker. Even her biological parents were disappointed in her. Eventually, she was sent abroad and faced even more struggles, including addiction to drugs and rejection due to her past.

As her life spiraled downward, she wondered how it came to this. She realized that her life had deviated from the track she had set for herself since being found by Wen's family. She blamed herself for not persevering and for being easily influenced by others.
