Chapter 101

Song Juyao followed Yun Yang's directions and set off towards the Academy of Sciences, only to realize that the path was considerably longer than she had anticipated. After walking for over ten minutes, there was still no sign of Cangwu Academy. What surprised Song Juyao even more was that she encountered maids, servants, and patrolling soldiers along the way, yet none of them attempted to halt her progress.

As the sky grew darker and the wind intensified, Song Juyao's long hair was swept up, and her skirt's hem fluttered. Coming to a stop, she gazed up at the sky. Evidently, a heavy rain was imminent. Nevertheless, since she had come this far and hadn't yet confirmed if Duke Murphy was truly Jiang Baiqi, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of reluctance.

Firming her resolve, Song Juyao clenched her teeth and forged ahead, hoping that the rain would hold off a bit longer.

However, fate defied her wishes; large raindrops began to fall. Disregarding potential consequences of running within the palace, she hitched up her skirt and dashed forward with determined strides.

The deluge descended abruptly, without any warning. In no time, the world was drenched, and the rain curtain was dense. The patrolling soldiers sought refuge beneath the eaves to evade the downpour.

Song Juyao became completely soaked. Under such circumstances, her inclination to meet Duke Murphy waned even further.

Just then, a car approached from behind.

"Who's recklessly running about in the palace?" the driver muttered in astonishment.

In the back seat, the king opened his eyes, regarding the disheveled figure with a peculiar sensation. It was as though something covertly urged him to halt the car and offer her a ride. The notion repelled him, prompting him to shut his eyes once more. Presently, he felt thoroughly uncomfortable and had no patience for such vexatious matters.

The car continued past Song Juyao. She turned her head, and for a brief moment, time seemed to slow. She caught a glimpse of a profile, somewhat blurred yet strikingly reminiscent. Her heart skipped a beat.

That was... Archie! She wouldn't mistake that face!

"Wait, hold on..." Song Juyao exclaimed, breaking into a run.

"Wait!"

The cabinet elders, observing clandestinely, sought to ascertain Song Juyao's destination and intentions. They specifically instructed others not to impede her progress. When they witnessed the king's carriage passing by, their excitement surged. Indeed, fate was orchestrating their encounter!

However, much to their surprise, Song Juyao began chasing after the car.

? ? ?

! !

Several pairs of gossiping eyes immediately swiveled towards the monitor screen. Even the internal affairs officer discarded his prior despondency and watched intently.

"Wait a moment!" Song Juyao shouted.

After driving a while, the driver glanced at the rearview mirror, noting the woman's pursuit. He was taken aback, casting a glance at the king. Observing the king's eyes shut in repose, he vacillated on whether he should inform him.

Ultimately, he decided against it. Not just anyone could approach the king; after all, this person's identity remained unknown. Pondering briefly, the driver resumed driving. With Song Juyao still in pursuit, he couldn't resist voicing a small utterance.

"Your Majesty... well, there's a lady chasing the car..."

The king reopened his eyes and glanced at the rearview mirror, observing Song Juyao's pursuit. His brows furrowed. "Stop."
