Chapter three - Where is the love?

In his dream, Chester was fleeing from Mr. P because he had put a whoopee pillow on his chair when he was awakened by a noise.

Tired, he looked at Mandy, who was still sleeping in his arms. Somewhere someone was whistling a sailor's tune, so Darryl had woken up again. But was that really the sound that woke him up? It seemed more like a flash or a click to Chester. Or had he imagined it because he had just been attacked by Mr. P. with suitcases?

Confused, he turned his gaze back to Mandy. She was so cute when she slept. So peaceful and so sweet. Chester immediately felt a strong desire to prank her. Now was the perfect opportunity. He was annoyed that he now had neither whipped cream nor a quill. He couldn't get to his prank box because Mandy had laid her head on his arm. Her hands rested on his chest, her breath gently and evenly brushed his skin...

She was so warm and soft.

Mandy hadn't dreamed, and if she had, she'd forgotten. Anyway, she blinked slightly, and it took her a few seconds to realize that she was laying in Chester's arms and his face was only a few inches from hers.

SPLASH!

The next moment she was sitting bolt upright on her pillows, glaring at Chester, who had distanced himself again after she had slapped him across the face.

"Don't tease me like that, you idiot!"

"Good morning to you too." Chester grumbled while rubbing his cheek. Man, where is the love? he thought for himself.

"Breakfast is ready, you two!" A third voice intervened.

Cupcake Darryl had made toast and fried eggs and turned the counter into a breakfast table. As the three ate, Chester thought he heard footsteps. Had anyone noticed that Candy Land was snowed in, and they would soon be free? Lost in thought, he plucked a white hair from Mandy's clothes.

"Where did you get the eggs from?", she asked Cupcake Darryl meanwhile.

He directed his gaze into the distance and answered her in a deep voice. "A true pirate knows how and where to stow supplies for emergencies."

That didn't quite answer her question, but she left it at that.

Gummybear Nita and Buzette didn't take long to get through to the store. Thanks to Nita's bear Bruce, the snow was dug aside in a short time. As soon as they were free, Mandy and Chester made their way to Metropolis. Mandy wanted to see a doctor about her injuries and Chester had insisted on accompanying her.

Grumpy, the boss of Candy Land trudged through the snow and the prank master followed her.

Man, where is her love? he thought again.
