Chapter 2

Timeskip 
(A week later)

Niki's pov

Homework started to pile up already. I grunted as I received the next worksheet being passed down the row.

I looked over and saw that Daeun already started doing it.

"Do mine while your at it"
I slid my worksheet to her.

"No. What the heck?"
She looked at me in disbelief.

I caught a glimpse of the airpod in her ear, sneakily covered by her hair.

"Or would you rather I snitch on you?"
I tapped on my ear, gesturing that I knew she was wearing her airpod.

Before she could react, I raised my hand.

"Yes Niki?"
-Teacher

"May I go to the washroom?"
I asked.

He nodded and got up. I glanced at Daeun who had a relief, yet tinge of irritation on her face as I exited the classroom.

I've gotten closer to that girl ever since year two of highschool. Not completely best friends, but we know each other's character enough to bicker around.

And I would be lying if I said I didn't have a thing for her.

I only realised my feelings for her last year. Having her as a seatmate is really fun, to make fun of, that is.

But before it's too late, I want to confess to her one day. I don't know how, considering our current status. What even are we?

"Niki, wait up"
A voice called from behind.

I turned around to see the brunette guy running towards me. Jake.

"Hey"
I clasped my hands with him.

"Wanna skip class till next period starts?"
He suggested, flipping his hair back.

"No thanks"
I shrugged.

"Because of Daeun?"
He pointed a thumb back to the classroom.

"What are you talking about?"
I haven't told him anything about it yet.

Jake's my best friend but that doesn't mean I tell him all my secrets.

"I sit behind you. Don't think I can't hear your convos with her"
He said.

"Shut up or I actually won't skip"
I gave in and started walking down the hallways with him.

Timeskip
(After school)

I was walking out the gates with my headphones on when I saw a familiar small figure briskly walk past me.

She was about to cross the road when the traffic light turned red. I took my chance and stood beside her. She looked in the opposite direction when she noticed my presence.

I secretly smiled at her annoyed face. When the traffic light turned green, she tried to zoom off, but I held her back by the handle of her bag.

"Hey-"
She stumbled back.

"Walk with me. I'm lonely"
I finally met her eyes as we crossed the road.

"You have Jake to walk with"
She slid off her headphones, letting it hang around her neck.

I copied her move.

"You're better company"
I said.

"Why?"
She raised a brow.

Deciding to distract her, I took her headphones off her neck and ran. I heard her shouting from afar for me to come back.

Definitely better company.

Daeun's pov

I got tired of chasing after him so I thought of a plan. 

As I got slightly nearer to him, I sat down and hugged a knee to my chest while he wasn't looking so as to look like I got hurt.

I then screamed in 'pain'. I heard Niki's quick footsteps towards me. 

"Daeun are you okay?"
He asked worriedly, putting a hand on my back.

I took the opportunity to snatch my headphones from his hand and stood up.

"Perfect as ever"
I said, brushing off the dust on my skirt.

I looked down at his puzzled face. 

"Thanks for returning my headphones"
I smiled proudly before walking off.

"Don't do that again. I was actually worried"
Niki caught up to me hitting me lightly.

"I just did. What are you gonna do about it?"
I put my headphones around my neck again.

"What if you actually fell? I'll be responsible for it. I am not about to carry you all the way to a clinic"
He said.

"Excuse me? Are you saying I'm heavy?"
I knitted my eyebrows together.

"Huh?! No, I mean it'll be-"
He got cut off.

"I'm kidding, chill. Can you just shut up so we can walk together in silence?"
I asked politely.

I actually had to stop because he's never been so embarrassed before.

"Y-yeah"
He awkwardly put his headphones on again and so did I.

We walked all the way home together.

And did I mention that we're neighbours??

A/n: I feel like this story might actually be really short. My aim is at least 10 chapters for each story.

I'll see if I can reach the goal for this book.
